Had so much hope... bad designs abound

First, this thing is a monster in terms of size. It hangs down below the cabinets quite a bit and sticks out from the wall quite a bit more than the cabinets as well. While part of the reason we opted to replace the existing machine was to get more cooking space, we genuinely never expected it to feel so massive once installed.
Ok... Let's talk faults.
First - the templates that come with the microwave to guide you on drilling holes is not terribly helpful to actually tape to the wall and drill through. The underside of the cabinet that it mounts to has trim pieces all around that create a 'recessed area' so there's absolutely no way to put this in place and drill through. Fortunately, it was fairly easy to transfer the measurements from the paper to the underside of the cabinet and drill.
Second - the wall mount bracket is the most ignorantly designed thing I have ever seen. Whomever came up with it, should be FIRED. The instructions guide you through locating studs and then choosing holes in the bracket to use. It turns out that the centerline for my installation was about as perfect as one could hope for because it is dead center between two studs. The problem is that there are NO HOLES that are exactly 8" off center in the bracket! And, the holes that are the most closely aligned end up being 15.5", 17.5", or 19.5" on center. Wait. What? Studs are 16" on center. Why do these holes not have that exact gap anywhere?
Third - the audible beeps and alerts are straight out of the "made for kids" area of mobile phone ringers. The 'alarm' tone for the timer and similar is some stupid song instead of standard beeping and it is NOWHERE near loud enough to be useful.
Fourth - the over-range light is NOT bright enough. The 25 year old unit that came out had a cooklight that was easily twice as bright. And I hate having to press the light control button twice to turn the light off (the first press changes from hi to low, the second turns it off).
Fifth - the turntable is unnecessarily difficult to line up with the drive gear when putting it into place, and the undersized floating ring under it doesn't give a high level of stability like it should.
It's a shame what these things have become as they're all made by one of only a couple of companies with Whirlpool sharing its innards with Electrolux, Frigidaire, Kitchen Aid, and about thirty other brand names. The alternative South Korean pieces of garbage are much more intelligently designed but don't hold up more than a couple of years (making them disposable units).
I bought this through Costco at a really steep discount, so I'm willing to try it out for a while. I have a reasonable suspicion that what we're really going to do is continue shopping for one that isn't a horrendously designed piece of junk during the return period.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Easy to Use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like this microwave as it is easy to use and has a lot of useful settings. The one drawback is that the light that we kept on at night heats the whole unit up, so we are unable to use it for that purpose. It is also very dim, and positioned to the back, so over the cook surface there is little light compared to my last microwave.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Needed a new over- stove microwave and found this nice looking chrome/black unit that matched our stove beautifully. It’s also bigger than our last one but very easy to install. Easy clean surface inside is a nice feature too. Door closes easily which is also great so you don’t have to slam it like some micro waves do.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] No finger prints on the outside & easy, non-stick surface on the inside. Still getting used to all the bells & whistles, but overall fantastic step up from the Hotpoint above range unit that was in our home previously

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought about 2 weeks ago and installation was a breeze. Wife really likes the Microwave. Seems to really cook all items we have tried evenly and a lot quicker than our old unit. Very Pleased with the purchase.
