[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am a Youtuber, I produce standalone edits videos and I livestream weekly. I needed a laptop that was both up to the task of editing and rendering my videos, but also handling my multi-camera live streams on the go.
My video content revolves around amateur radio, which also requires specialty software and multi-media. The X1 Carbon excel at everything.
Its sizes means I take it everywhere, its battery life means I'm never without the ability to produce content.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought a customized X1C6 to replace my 2014 MacBook Air, since I need to work remotely for a couple months, and although I love my MacBook for internet browsing and media consumption, I find it difficult to work effectively with Microsoft Office products on my Mac. Althoguht I installed Windows 10 on my Mac for when I needed to work, but it's just not the same as working on a Windows device.
My specs:
- i7-8650 processor
- 16GB RAM
- 512GB SSD
- 14" WQHD (2560 x 1440) IPS anti-glare, 300 nits
- IR camera for Windows Hello
- Silver finish
This laptop is not my first ThinkPad, since I had used one for work, so I'm already used to using the TrackPoint, which is a huge selling point for me. The ThinkPad keyboard is also in a class of its own. I absolutely love typing on this, and I can't imagine what it would have been like to buy one of the newer MacBooks with the butterfly keyboard.
I know some people equate ThinkPad with black, but I'm really happy with my silver finish. When I had a black ThinkPad for work, I was tired of always having to wipe down my laptop since the black gets dirty real quick. Now I don't even have to worry about dirtying up my laptop, which is great.
Also, the I/O ports on this machine is such a breath of fresh air coming from my MacBook Air and the Surface Laptop that I had been using for work.
I love this laptop, and although it could have better speakers, I bought it as a work machine, so I don't really care about speaker quality for it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had only received the ThinkPad X1 a few weeks ago, but it completely changed that way that I had viewed laptops. I had no idea that a laptop could be so light and slim but still be the same size as my old laptop. Not to mention the finger print pass code is really cool and saves a lot of time I had spend accidentally typing in the wrong password (caps lock or spaces)
