I ordered the ThinkPad X1 Carbon (6th Gen) 14.0" WQHD (2560 x 1440) HDR with Dolby Vision almost a month now to replace my XPS 15 which I have had over a year now. The XPS is a great PC but didn’t do so well when it came to battery life. I never liked the layout and feel of the keyboard on the XPS. It is also a relatively heavy unit.
The X1 Carbon has a great keyboard and the weight at 2.49lbs is perfect for someone like me who travel around with the computer. The battery life is good. With the screen brightness set to 70%, I am able to work for approximately 8 hours which gets me through a typical day which usually includes running Visual Studio 2017, Office 2016 and web browsing as well as occasionally streaming videos from PluralSight and YouTude.
I am bit disappointed when comes to the HDR screen. While it is very bright and the colors are sharp, there is red bias to the white, especially when viewed from an angle. See image comparing displays. Also, I expected to see the HDR option under Windows 10 display setting after updating the OS to Windows 10 Spring 2018 Update but the option was missing. I contacted Lenovo’s support and the tech remotely connected and said that option should be there but he wasn’t able to help. I am hoping that the issue can be addressed with a driver update from Lenovo and that one is coming soon. The issue might be related to the Intel UHD 620 graphics card, not sure.
Overall, the pc has great build quality, good battery life, and excellent weight. The keyboard is a dream to type on it. I would recommend the 14.0" WQHD (2560 x 1440) IPS anti-glare over the HDR Dolby vision screen unless you really need the camera with ThinkShutter if there are privacy concerns.

Lenovo keeps getting better and better with the X1, especially the new speedy chipset (8th Gen, quad-core CPU), an eye-popping vibrant HDR display, battery life with impressive endurance (over 10 hours), strong port selection, including two USB Type-A ports, a full-size HDMI connector, two Thunderbolt 3 ports and a microSD card slot; and an improved far-field microphone which picks up my voice from anywhere in the room as I dictate. ThinkPad X1 Carbon is the ultimate business-class ultrabook. We have now purchased multiple ThinkPad X1 Carbon (6th Gen) laptops for the office.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After years (20+) of numerous other brands of laptops all used for business and with docking capability I finally bought an X1 Carbon. It is far and away the best I have ever used. Light weight, wonderful keyboard, docks easily. I can't say enough good about it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After a couple of weeks of use, the 6th gen X1 Carbon is living up to its reputation. It looks like the classic Thinkpad workhorse, but is nice and light when you pick it up. The HDR screen is nice and bright, but does show some reflection. It has not been a problem because of the brightness, but is significantly more reflective than my old laptop (Thinkpad X220). The trackpad is good and responsive. The buttons above the trackpad click differently depending on where you press on the button. This is just taking some getting used to. The keyboard quality is still well above other laptop keyboards, but doesn't quite compete with my older (X220) keyboard. I think some button key travel was given up to achieve the thinness, a sacrifice I am happy with. The hardest question I had with the purchase was whether it was worth the cost. It is high, but I don't feel anything competes with the reliability and feature combination. For me it is worth it, but does hit the pocket book.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have worked with several other Lenovo ThinkPads in the past but this X1 Carbon is the best of the bunch by far! The design is superb, the display crisp and vibrant, and the keyboard is perfectly designed. The performance is amazing and the lightweight construction is amazing. I will recommend this to other people for sure!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had previously owned three year old Thinkpad and have had the X1 about 2-3 weeks. Super upgrade from last model. Light weight, great battery life and great functionality. Few issues with powering on/off and a couple of freezes where machine beeps when trying to use mouse and is unresponsive. Otherwise have been very happy with display, functionality and feel of laptop.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After about 15 years of owning various laptops, I've found the one of my dreams. I have always owned large, heavy notebooks because I needed the power. I was worried nothing this light would let me do my video editing, yet this quad core CPU renders my 1080p videos faster than my old large gaming notebook. The battery life lasts all day on long days of flying for business. I've never paid a lot of attention to keyboards, but this one is a joy to type on. I've never used a Track-point, and it took some time to get used to it, but now I could never go back to a touch-pad (even though the one on this system is really nice.)
It's so many little touches that make this such a superior notebook. A simple, adjustable back-lit keyboard that is effective and professional looking. I normally delete all preinstalled bloatware, but there's none on this and the Lenovo system management app is actually very useful. The little touch of a webcam that has a shutter you can use to cover it up. The fingerprint Windows Hello login that actually works. Everything about this notebook is well built, professional, and a joy to use.
Every time I pick up this notebook (with one hand, easily!) and use it, it makes me smile. Highly recommended,
