I needed a new laptop for school and couldn’t decide so I had to do quite a bit of research. The instant on, the keyboard, the webcam slider.. everything so far is amazing. I got the 16gb model with a 512ssd and have it running like 6 vm’s right now. I’ve only had it power 3 at once setting up my virtual networking but it handles everything amazing. I have a home built desktop with half the power(i5, 8gb, 2tbhd) and I haven’t even turned it on since I bought this. Did I mention the weight? 2.5 pounds.. it’s lighter than my physical paper notebook for school. My iPad Pro seems just a tiny hair lighter even. I’m super happy with this new x1.
The x1, 2018, is great design but the one they sent me had a barely view-able screen and the keyboard had a lot of sticky keys. Returned it. Maybe will order again. Seems like a lottery as to getting a workable x1

This is the fifth Thinkpad I've owned and the previous four have been great or at the very least as-expected. This 6th-gen X1 Carbon though just feels off. There's nothing wrong with the hardware according to the Lenovo BIOS tests (and so contacting tech support won't help), but it's sluggish just moving around Windows, the fingerprint reader is useless, and there's flighty behavior on startup. But, technically, it works -- it doesn't add 2 + 2 and get 5 or anything.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I wanted a laptop that boots quickly and gives me access to my work quickly. This ThinkPad fits the bill. I have a Yoga for work, and a Carbon for my personal use. I am pleased with my purchase. I use it for music notation software, some application development, email and browsing.
The X1 is incredibly thin and light, and the new quad core processors give it the performace of a much larger laptop. HDR display is gorgeous and definitely recommend the upgrade - far better than any of my past Lenovo displays
Very nice laptop, using about 3 weeks now. Light weight, everything works great. Keyboard is excellent. Opted for a 3rd party docking station. Handles lot's of peripherals with no problems so far. I forgot that the screen is not touch screen, but it doesn't really seem to matter now, except the screen is a lot cleaner.
Only issue is that it comes with the Microsoft OneDrive installed and trying to get my stuff off of that site and to stop using it was a little difficult. But I guess that is with all windows laptops now. Annoying, should be given the option to not use it upon setup. But that is a one time setup issue.
