Purchased it for business travel because of the lightweight design and my good experience with this brand. Sadly, the headphone jack is poor. Crackling sounds, no one can hear me on conference web calls, and there's no real troubleshooting solution to fix this. The only way to fix it is to send it back to manufacturer for repair which can take up to 5 business days.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I had a Carbon (1st Gen) that I have LOVED for 6 years + but it was exhibiting some issues... so I jumped into another - 6th Gen Carbon and so far the file transfers/downloads, etc... all went amazingly smoothly. I look forward to working on it for many more years!!! Also super light - easy to take with you anywhere!
I have four IBM T-43 ThinkPads which have been workhorses for almost 15 years. If they would run Windows 10, I would not be writing this review. My new X1 is a beauty. If it goes as long as the T-43's (which still work great but only run on XP Pro) I will be happy. I would suggest a real paper manual and some support in the way of a reliable legacy small docking device (I have 8 of the big ones for the T-43's) as I do not like to plug in all the peripherals when on the move. Also, how about a simple language explanation of Lightning Bolt, USB C, USB A and all the rest. Thanks for a great machine - I can only type on a ThinkPad keyboard do do not ever give that up!
Purchased this laptop recently just been 15 days and I must say I 'am in general satisfied with the build quality and features.
The only downside because of this I gave this rating 3 is because I'am having issues with the Laptop speakers with broken sound when I up the volume above 70%.

I bought this a month ago and I really like it because the display is great and it's really tailored for productivity. However, the speaker is very tinny and the Webcam quality is lacking. For $1400, I wish they hadn't skipped in these areas.
I bought the X1 Carbon about two weeks ago and have loved it! Coming from a surface laptop, I really enjoy the weight of the X1 as well as the terrific keyboard. In regards to the keyboard, it is almost addictive to type, akin to the old BlackBerry experience. I only have two small gripes... 1. The fingerprint reader is bad. In 2018 you would expect a reader to have a near perfect read rate (at least with good conditions), but struggle to login in with my finger about half the time. 2. I got a pre-configured model from a Lenovo vendor and was stuck with the HD screen. I wish Lenovo would make the touch HD screen standard as I have an urge to complete some task via touch. Otherwise a great laptop that I hope will last me many years.
The display lid does not line up with the case when closed (there is a gap on the right side). And it's impossible to keep clean - the case material is a fingerprint and oil magnet. It looks really cheap compared to something like a metal cased Macbook Pro.
