I purchased this laptop online, something I've now been burned by twice and it won't happen again. I'm a long time Yoga lover and have used it for photography. I needed the speed of this one as well as other great internal updates so purchased it. There isn't a DSLR made (that I'm currently aware of) that uses micro SD cards, so the convenience of onboard ports for standard SD cards as well as being able to plug in multiple USB cables, is important to me. Unfortunately, when I received it, I discovered that USB ports as well as SD card slots don't exist. Why do I want to purchase and carry around an external cable to a multi-use plug-in when I could have these ports already in my laptop. What, you want to emulate Apple? If I wanted an Apple, which I never will, I'd buy one (which I could). By eliminating ports from this ThinkPad, I am no longer a Lenovo fan and returned the laptop. This one thing stopped me and I am now using a state-of-the-art ASUS that has dramatically increased my computing power without eliminating the many ports I use. So, since I never got past these issues, I can't speak to how it operates.
The X1 Carbon is a solid, lightweight laptop w excellent keyboard, nice screen and sufficient speed for any office application. The configuration being reviewed is Core i5-8250H, 256GB SSD, 16 GB RAM. Editing photos is possible, if a bit slower than it would be w a faster processor. I don’t recommend editing video, except for short pieces shot for social media. My only complaint w the computer is the surface finish, which showed surface blemishes on the track pad within the first 2 weeks of use.
I bought a 14" Lenovo laptop to replace my almost 10-year-old 18" HP laptop. The Lenovo is much smaller and lighter. It may or may not be faster at computing, but it is much faster at starting up and switching tasks. It has a large solid state drive instead of the magnetic hard drive in the old machine. It also has a battery that lasts for hours which is a nice change from the two nearly worn out batteries I have for the old machine. I will miss the numeric keyboard, built-in DVD reader, and larger number of USB ports on the larger laptop, but I think the smaller size will more than make up for that when I travel with the new Lenovo. The laptop display is very nice, with great resolution and colors. I added a large monitor for use at my desk, so I don't use the laptop display except when traveling.
The laptop is great! Good battery life, lightweight and little bloat ware. How there sometimes is a problem charging the laptop. Where it will flick back and forth from charging to not charging when the charging cable is plugged in. I do not know about any permanent fix, I just close the laptop then plug in the cable and then turn the laptop on and that seems to prevent the problem. Besides that problem the laptop works great !
Great laptop. Cons: 1. Really hard to get used to the wrongly placed Function and CTRL keys. 2. Battery life not as good as advertised. 3. The matte finish touch screen is nice to touch but not as responsive as the usual glossy touchscreens
