I’ve been using handheld ham radios for years with disappointing results. The range simply wasn’t there, and the licensing process was a hassle. I made a decision to move to GMRS and wanted to find a solution that worked with my midland handheld walk-in talkies. The MXT400 not only did that well but has the clearest communication I’ve experienced in a radio. Installation was relatively simple and I’m excited to put this through its paces!

Wish I would have bought the Midland Mxt400 before I bought the Rugged Radios unit. I hastely bought the Rugged Radios thinking I had to have it. Though it’s a good Hamm radio…. I just don’t use it as much as the FRS/GMRS. Most of my wheeling friends have handhelds and base units in their Jeeps and everyone loves the ease in which to use without necessarily worrying about wether or not they have a license or how to talk on it properly/legally. Now I have both and the best of both worlds. What’s funny is now the competitor is trying to jump on the train with over priced units. Only complaint to Midland…. Put 2 stickers in the box. 1 for each side of the vehicle. Thanks.

I love this radio! It's very compact yet cranks out 40 watts! That's a lot of power for a lot radios! It's easy to program, use & a nice alternative to C.B. radios that allow only 4 watts & 12 watts on SSB! & I've found not too many people seem to use GMRS around here, so the channels aren't always busy with a lot of chatter! I do wonder why Midland's most expensive GMRS radio doesn't have built-in weather, though, that would be very nice.
