Great 40W Radio

I really like this radio, but I'm not crazy about the standard microphone. It's just not that ergonomic. It's a little big. But it's not that big a problem. I plan on replacing it with the new MXTA47 when it comes out in July 2021. It looks like the ergonomics may better agree with me. I installed two of these radios in two of my Jeeps and just completed a 3,300 mile overlanding trip and had no issues communicating with the other Jeep.

Powerful Radio to Hit Distant Repeaters

I am using this particular radio as a base station with a QJE power supply, 100 feet of LMR-240 coax, and a Browning BR-6140 unity gain antenna on a 20 foot pole. I have no trouble hitting multiple repeaters from 10 miles to 35 miles away and I live on a forested lot in a bit of a depression. I can't complain about the performance. If I lived on a hill or elevated area I could probably hit repeaters 60 miles away. The radio is easy to program PL tones. I ordered the programming cable also but I have no need at this time to program dual PL tones or make any other changes. I am sure Midland will come out with a new radio a little better than this one but that's how technology works.... Always improving.
