Best GMRS on the market

We operate storm chasing tours and reliable comms are very important to us. We have had Midland radios before that have worked great, but these step up the game to a new level for us. We have not found a time when they didn't work, even miles away. Would recommend this to anyone that wanted a great GMRS radio!

Owner Possible answer to the mixed brand privacy
on June 23, 2018

This may be the problem with the mixed brand privacy codes ( PL tones) in the radios. There are EIA standard CTCSS tones and there are some "non" standard CTCSS tones , some brands include both and some do not. So that being said , If the tones are numbered in the manual tone number 3 may or may not be the same in your radio. The same tone frequency you want may be number 2 or 4 . the higher you get from tone number 1 the farther you may have to hunt to find the same tone code. You need to find the chart that shows what the actual tone freq. is for a given numerical number that goes with that tone . Digital tones are a whole different subject with "normal" and "inverted" that too must be the same in each radio if you choose to use digital tones instead of CTCSS tones. One other side note from way back with GMRS -462.675 and Tone 141.3 hz. was the calling and so called emergency channel in some areas. I think this would still be a good idea today which is similar to Marine ch 16 for boats.

Bought as a base station with a Tram 1486 antenna. The clarity and coverage are exactly what I wanted. Will be buying more.

POWER & SIMPLICITY IN A SMALL PACKAGE!!!

I bought the MXT400 MicroMobile® 2-Way Radio a couple of months ago and I must confess that it lives up to its reputation for power output, sleek design and ease of access. I Matched it with a MicroMobile® MXTA11 6db Gain mobile antenna, producing an SWR ratio at 1.1 with reflective power at less than .06 in repeater mode
It doesn't get any better than that!!! - Thanks Midland

Worked fantasic on an RV Caravan

I lead RV Caravans through Mexico. We used CB radios for years. Last year we tested these ou ton an RV acvravn through Mexico. I would say the range was close to 4 times what a CB was and a lot clearer. We had no problems communicating across the entire gorup of 12 from front to back even is some hilly terrain. Also a lot of RV's are fibreglass and required a special antenna to provide a ground plane, these seem to have good range even using tie wrap to hook them to a normal radio antenna or use double sided tape where there is no magnetic surface. What is really nice is our customers can do a temporary install them themselves in 15 minutes and the antenna cable is thin enough to pass through the rubber door sesl if they are careful. The fact they are compatible with hand helds makes parking 15 rigs in an RV park a lot easier. We will continue to use these. We will be using them for a larger Airstream Caravan this season.

Best GMRS radio anywhere

I wanted a GMRS radio that connects to repeaters and this is one of the very few that will. It works so well I bought another one to use as a base station. The controls are easy to use but putting it into repeater mode is a little tricky and not intuitive.

MXT 400
on March 2, 2020

I bought 2 MXT 400 radios and they work great. Only downside: Tinny audio sound, no weather channels, and power output is 4.5 watts low, a good 20 watts on medium, and 32 watts high. If you advertise 40 watts, make sure sure 40 is coming out the back. Make sure to get a high gain antenna. The 3dbd ghost antenna doesnt work that well. Get the 6dbd. But I did give it 5 stars, so yeah its a good radio.
