Bought this a few weeks ago ... surprised at construction quality not plastic garbage ...it’s metal feels solid heavy duty, haven’t hooked it up yet but I’m impressed so far ...

I use the MXT-400 both in mobile and base station operations. Ease in switching to H M L power levels is quite handy, as well as the Channel change dial. Reaching out to repeaters and distant units on HI power is very impressive. I do miss not having WX reception, but that's not much of an issue with me. It's the best Midland product I've had.

The MXT400 is a solid radio and with Midland's pretuned antennas installation was a breeze.

I really like this radio. I communicate often with my wife while we are driving our vehicles in town, and I was finding that handhelds in the car really weren't meeting our needs. With handhelds, range was unpredictable, the audio was too quiet, and it was annoying if the radios were left at home on the charger. The MicroMobile solved these issues, and if I was going through the trouble of installing the radios properly and getting my GMRS license, why not get the most powerful radio Midland has to offer! I have purchased two of the radios and they are installed in both mine and my wife's vehicle.
In both installations, the microphone needed to be quite a distance from the transmitter, so I used an ethernet cord and coupler for the mic, and it works great! I'm grateful that was possible. Thanks Midland!
I have a Midland speaker attached in both vehicles, and the radios are plenty loud. With the handheld, I was missing calls and having to hold the radio in one hand due to volume issues. Not anymore! I can drive safely and I don't miss any calls.
Be aware that these are powerful radios. Using these on full power with your car off will drain your battery; and quick, too!
I have the MXTA10 3dB antenna mounted on the roof of my car, and my wife has the MXTA9 0dB antenna on the roof of her van. The top of both antennas measure about 6 feet from the ground. Where we live is pretty flat terrain and range is very predictable. There are calculators online that will pinpoint the visual horizon, and since GMRS is line of sight, this calculation gives a good expectation of range. 6 feet in height gives 3 miles to the horizon, and 3+3=6, so we can communicate up to 6 miles apart. I have gotten up to 5.75 miles, but 4 miles or less is more comfortable.
These radios have made two-way communication more fun, predictable, reliable, and safe. With the proper installation, the MXT400 is a great choice!
