Returning Runner - back to Garmin
on June 16, 2018
Posted by: Tania2018
I bought my Garmin in March and I didn't feel that I deserved to wear such a watch as I was such a flaky runner. I didn't trust my commitment to the sport. I am SO glad that I went ahead and bought it. The feedback from the data it collects is impressive. I am learning more about me and it is improving how I take care of myself and plan for a successful running. I am paying attention to my heart rate and I am surprised at my low resting heart rate! The sleep cycle monitors hours of sleep and subdivides it into deep sleep, light sleep and REM which is fascinating to me as I know sleep is a part of recovery. Through Garmin Connect we share our stats - as much or as little as we choose. For me, it provides accountability. There is more to the watch -listening to music without worrying about carrying a phone. I still carry my phone but I rarely use it and never for music. I love my watch and I truly believe I am running more consistently because it's fun to watch the results.

Love it now.

Love it now but as with any new relationship it was bumpy at first. The transferring of songs was laborious. I use iTunes and was required to use Windows Media Player to create multiple playlists. I had never used it previously. Creating all those individual playlists took a long time. Other than that it has been great and I highly recommend the watch.

Given as a gift and what an awesome gift it’s been! I’ve enjoyed doing so many activities with it. I figured out how to customize the main screen and add features I wanted. It’s been terrific! Highly recommend.

I love this watch. It's perfect for someone mainly wanting to track fitness with some great smartwatch features. The music feature is awesome and I love running with just my watch and headphones. It's very stylish and I get compliments on it all the time.

Response from GarminBy Joey with Garmin, Fitness Product Support, July 13, 2018
Hello Bekkeroni,
Thanks for posting a review. We wanted to reach out and offer some help with getting music loaded to your Forerunner 645 Music. For music files that are stored on your computer's media management program you can use Garmin Express (www.garmin.com/express). Garmin Express will be able to locate compatible music files, audiobooks, podcasts, and playlist and sync them to your watch. You can also download a Music app for iHeartRadio to download playlists from the iHeartRadio service. For more information and FAQs and videos about loading music to the watch use the following Service Center link: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?productID=612476&topicTag=region_music
Thanks again for posting your review.

Best Garmin to date
on June 16, 2018

I have been using Garmin watches for over a decade and this is the best model to date. The wrist based heart rate sensor is finally accurate enough to do away with the chest strap. The music capability is a nice new addition. The expanded activity list and data screen options (specifically 3 to a screen with no titles - they should add 2 to a screen with not titles) are improvements as well. The only disappointment is the watch no longer works with the Garmin Communicator plugin that allowed direct download of data to the SportTracks software I use to track my trainng.

I have been waiting for garmin to include portable tunes so I can ditch my phone. Turn by turn direction really works!! Please fix the bluetooth cutting out when wearing the watch on opposite side of the earphone transmitter. Still a perfect watch, awesome job Garmin!!

Bugs, freezes, and crashes
on June 17, 2018

The Forerunner 645 Music would be the watch of my dreams.. if it worked. Instead, it’s a better-looking but less reliable equivalent to my old (non-Garmin) watch. The main problems I’ve experienced: 1. Synching with iHeartRadio is unsuccessful: it proceeds VERY slowly (i.e., would take an hour or more if it finished), and always crashes before completing downloading a playlist. I’ve had better luck synching iTunes playlists, but my old watch did that fine too. 2. Periodically during a run the Forerunner 645 Music will crash and restart itself. The run resumes after that ~1min process, but pacing and distance data are screwed up for the rest of the run. This happened in the Boston Marathon and a couple of other races, meaning I had to estimate my time and pace in my head. 3. In the first mile of the Brooklyn Half Marathon the watch froze completely: it wouldn’t even restart until the battery ran dead several hours later.
I hope these bugs can be fixed with software patches, because it really should be the perfect watch for me (especially if they can also add podcast support!).
