Hinged Cast Iron Grates sold me on Cooktop

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After many years of struggling to detach and remove heavy stovetop grates for cleaning the stove surface, I now find it a breeze with Whirlpool's hinged cast iron grates - a wonderful innovation. Now I just lift, not remove, a grate or grates after cooking and voila, the stovetop surface is ready for cleaning! Very happy with this product, highly recommend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This unit came with a new build house. It's alright. I do like that the grate can be lifted so cleaning is really easy. The knobs that are closest to the bottom right and bottom left burner are too close so you can't use any decently large pan or you will melt the knobs. Ive already melted the top of one. One of the burners wint stop clicking after ignition. I've tried to get service to come out and fix it through the whirlpool service website. I received no confirmation email or any communications after scheduling the service. Two days before the service I get an email saying get ready for your service and that they will be at my house between 8am and 4pm. They didn't show up, no phone call, text or email so I wasted an entire day waiting for no one to show.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The look and feel of quality

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This cooktop was a replacement for an older unit that finally failed. The opening left from the previous unit exceeded the maximum cutout specifications for this new unit so I modified the opening as needed with custom cutting of tile to fit the need. The heavy duty iron grates have a real solid feel to them but lift easily out of the way plus the completely sealed burners should make for easy care and cleaning. The various sizes and heating capabilities of the 5 burners are varied enough to satisfy almost any cooking need. Our system uses LP gas so the LP conversion kit that comes with the unit (regulator and orifices) had to be installed. No adjustments or fine tuning of the flame controls were necessary. Has the look and feel of quality I guess is the best way to describe my impression of this Whirlpool appliance.

No Boil Overs

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this cooktop to fit into the existing place occupied by what was probably the original 35-year-old one. I like the hinged grates that are easy to lift, the five different
choices of burners, and the ease of cleaning if something spills. I haven't had trouble with any boil overs of pasta or potatoes. It seems that it does take a little longer to cook because of the distance between the flame and the pan, and I have had to adjust how long to cook hard boiled eggs. It had gotten to the point that only two of my original four burners were working, so it's been great to have five, including the big one to use for a large stockpot. The only real complaint I might have is that specks of tomato sauce seem to slightly stain the grates, but that's not a major problem. Our youngest even thought that
it might have improved my cooking! We also chose it because it was white and matched our other appliances. After almost two months of daily cooking, we have been very happy with it. Because my husband also cooks, we decided we wanted a gas cooktop in white that was good quality, affordable, fit into the existing space, cleaned easily, handled several pans simultaneously, and could be used for canning purposes as well as regular cooking.
