Poor performance

Wi-Fi performance from router is acceptable, but Wi-Fi and ethernet from satellites are poor. All kind of settings and factory reset tested with no help.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Disappointing

Purchased the RBK50 and it hasn’t even been a month and my phone and gaming system won’t connect. It works then cuts out so often. Resetting it doesn’t work and support was very poor. Very frustrating as school is now all online and I can’t get anything done!!

If your Orbi wireless connecting is cutting out you may be on a congested wireless channel by default. You are able to change this: https://kb.netgear.com/23783

Won't work as a satellite on a WiFi 6 Orbi System

This is intended to help inform others who are considering the purchase of this outdoor satellite of having trouble joining it to and existing Orbi system. There are a number of support posts regarding problems with this device joining existing Orbi networks as a satellite (as opposed to an extender). I've just spent hours trying to get this to work and on the phone with Netgear support. I have an Orbi RBS850 router and the last tech support person I talked with just informed me there is no way the RBS50Y will work on a WiFi 6 network as a satellite. He indicated the RBS50Y is a WiFi 5 device and could only work as an extender on a WiFi 6 network. Assuming this information is true, then shame on Netgear for not making this crystal clear - the company's website says it works with any Orbi WiFi mesh system and that is not true unless you want it to work in extender mode. I am returning the product.

No Alexa Multi Room Audio support

Please do not buy this for Alexa "multi room music" functionality - the speaker itself is fine, however, it does not support Alexa MRM functionality which is fundamental if you have more than one alexa device in your house.
The satellite router functionality works as advertised, so if you are buying for that and you maybe need to play music in standalone fashion on one device then its fine.

Huge Problem / no way to connect

I have very thick walls and need to run an ethernet line to the extender... no such luck on this one :( Not good. No RJ45 :(

So far so good

I've had this mesh for awhile and i recommend this. Though not sure why my network has gone slow now so i'm planning on adding a satellite extender. I just wish this wasn't so expensive.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Works great as an Extender.

The reason I didn't give 5 star was that I got it to be used as a satellite to my RBR850 but it turns out that it won't connect and it's a known issue. After managing to upgrade the firmware I was able to get it connected as an Extender. Its working great but you have no real way of monitoring it without having to get into the Extender itself. It's still worth it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Literally years trying to get internet to work throughout our house, dock, and shop. Orbi extended our signal to all our hard to reach spots. Thank you Orbi!
