Bring back the physical buttons!

Most people who require a rugged phone require physical buttons and a durable screen. Please slim this phone down a bit and bring the buttons back! This was definitely a step in the wrong direction for the Active phones, this being the 3rd i've owned.
Pros: Durable
Cons: Too big, Did not meet expectations, Poor quality, no physical buttons, screen easily scratches
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I hate this phone, but it's not really fair that I do...

I got this phone because my S6 Active got surged and burned out the charging port. I could have kept using the phone using wireless charging, and did for a while, but it was just too inconvenient.
The S8 Active is a brick in comparison. The surface of the phone is slick and it's more blocky than the S6 was. It's just slightly larger, just enough so to be an annoyance in most of my pockets. I can't imagine this would fit in the front pockets of most girls jeans.
It feels a lot thicker than the S6 Active. Not having physical buttons is infuriating, especially when the phone is unresponsive or slow to respond; which is a lot.
As other people have mentioned, the glass is SUPER soft. Maybe not the glass, maybe a coating on the glass -- but it scratched from just two days in my pockets before I put a tempered glass screen protector on it.
Which gets me to my next jab... it constantly things you are tap-sliding. So when you try to click on things it doesn't fully click. It's infuriating.
Overall, I just really HATE this phone. I wish I could send it back. If I could fix my S6 active and not worry it'd leak in the charging port (I get my phone wet constantly) I'd just do that, and I may still. I really, REALLY regret buying this phone.
My biggest digs are: 1) It's just slightly too big to reach the whole phone with one hand, 2) it's a brick, too thick, sides and back are slick, 3) the glass / surface coating is very easily marred.
I don't feel like this was an upgrade at all, I actually feel like it's quite a downgrade. But, sadly it seems we get *updates* "forced" upon us right before new models come out and the *update* I got earlier this year on my S6 Active caused the battery to drain much faster, that combined with the blown charging port - I felt like I'd be better off getting a new phone.... wish I hadn't.
If you've never had an earlier model active, you might love this phone. Personally, doesn't seem faster, doesn't hold battery life longer than mine used to, it's thicker, just enough bigger to be annoying and not see any real benefit to increased size, feels slicker and just in general the phone feels like it would break easier. I haven't dropped it or anything to validate that but I have a feeling the first time this thing drops 4ft out of my truck door it's going to shatter.
Overall, I don't like this phone. But, I still think it's probably the best new phone for the money right now. I really hope Samsung learns from this and gets back more to the previous generations of the active because I have really, REALLY loved the past versions of the Active.
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Too big, Did not meet expectations, heavy / bulky
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Features a shatter-resistant screen¹

1. Except screen will shatter when falls off couch onto floor - all within two days of getting the phone. I have never broken a screen on a smart phone and I bought my first one about 6 years ago. For the past 4 years, I have sworn by Samsung's Active series having bought the Active 4 and 6. The Active 8 falls far from its lineage. I would not suggest this to anyone.
Pros: Bright display
Cons: Poor quality, shatter-resistance lies, non-durable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Phone Fail!!

I really liked this phone...I likes the size and the durablility , but unfortunately after having the phone for only (5) months,, the phone failed. I could not answer calls, unless I was on Bluetooth or on speaker phone. The signal was horrible and then the call would just drop. A BIG disappointment!!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Excellent, solid phone for active lifestyle

I've had the s8 active for a year and it's genuinely the best phone I've ever had. Because of my work and my hobbies, I need a phone that can handle quite a bit. I work as a paramedic and I've given my phone a good beating while working and it doesn't have a scratch on it. I also love some of the extra features (face recognition, built in pulse ox., sos calling). I would highly recommend this phone to anyone!

my wife has a note8 and i have s8active. her phone has two more bars than my s8 active, i usually get 2 bars if i`m lucky and maximum 3 bars. Sometimes it shows 4-5 bars at home where we have att microcell but it`s fake. Calls drop or can`t place a call until i try 5-6 times or restart the phone. Text messages and emails are always delayed. Sometimes i simply can`t end a call. hit the red button but phone is not responding, By far the worst phone i ever had and the money is wasted it is 6 months old. Has tempered glass and silicon case since day one. I hate it so much i paid it off and will sell half price and move on and this will be my last samsung phone...
Pros: Durable
Cons: Did not meet expectations, signal and reception issues.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I DROPPED IT FROM 3 STORIES HIGH
on August 25, 2020

once i was going down an escalator and was talking on the phone. my s8 active was between my ear and shoulder and i dropped it. it fell 3 stories and did not get a scratch!
i absolutely love my phone. if you are the type of person to ruin phones this is the one for you.
once, i was sledding in 12" snow and my phone fell out of my pocket. i could not find it and had to wait until the snow melted away to get it. i found it 2 weeks later and it still worked! it went through the outdoor weather, rain and snow for 2 weeks and still functioned great!
I would recommend this to a friend!
