The screen scratches just from your fingers
on October 17, 2017

I was very excited to have a new phone. I absolutely loved it at first. Then after 6 days of use I noticed I had scratches on the screen from where my fingers scroll up and down. It was never dropped and when in my pocket nothing else was with it. I couldn't believe that Samsungs rugged phone would get scratched from normal use. It is a touch screen you are supposed to touch it but if you touch this one it will scratch. I am not the only person that has this problem either I checked online and there are a lot of people having this issue. A new phone shouldn't look likes its been used for years after 6 days. Samsung needs to recall this and fix it. On the same day my wife got a s8+ and she doesn't have this problem at all still looks new. I'd leave zero stars if I could. My old s5 active doesn't have any screen scratches after a little over 2 years of use.

Screen Scratches Easily - AVOID
on August 23, 2017

I've had this phone in and out of my pocket for a week. The screen is already covered in scratches--it's not actually Gorilla Glass, but a hybrid coated in plastic. No screen protectors were suggested or in stock. My previous Galaxy Active went over two years with no screen protector and one tiny scratch in spite of all its adventures. My new phone is trashed from doing nothing and I am out all I paid. AVOID.

Not Scratch proof

Not even 24 hrs after I bought the thing, I put it in my pocket , no keys or sharp objects in it, and now it is scratched, hair line scratches but definetly visible. There were no screen protectors to buy at the store and also it is the active so it should be for "active" stuff and can't even take shirt friction.

Upgrade from S5 Active
on August 15, 2017

I broke a few phone screens before I bought an S5 Active years ago(~3 years ago). It was time for an upgrade. I bought the S8 Active the day it was released in stores. The S5 Active was still in great shape physically but became slow due to upgrades.
Initial Opinion: This phone weighs much more than my S5 Active. Weight is not an issue thpugh. It just feels sturdy, more so than my S5 Active. The screen looks amazing. Higher resolution, higher contrast, wider aspect ratio(in landscape, screen is same width but taller in portriat). The battery is sealed so that the back doesn't pop off when dropped but does not seem to allow for battery replacement, however; battery life is substantially incredible!!! Awesome battery life!!!
The point of buying the Active variant is that you don't need a case or screen protector to make it last, so only time will tell but I feel quite confidant so far.
I would give the S8 Active a 5/5 but I can't until I see or experience some drop tests. My S5 Active was such a tank that I would purposefully drop my phone from waist level when others talked about breaking their screens from minor drops to show how awesome it was.
Will update after drop tests both commercial and personal.

Day 2 and I dropped it 2 ft and it broke 2 corners of the unbreakable screen protector and has dings in the body of the phone. Very disappointed in the durability of both products

Terrible

First phone was so buggy it eventually shut itself down and wouldn't come back on. That was within 24 hours of getting it. Replacement is still so congested with Samsung bloatware that it can't even send text messages properly. Also, beware of Samsung Internet. It's granted several permissions, and set up as the default browser, right away but so open to malware that before I even used it I got a pop-up claiming my phone was infected with multiple viruses. I suggest immediately disabling Samsung Internet permissions and only using Chrome as your browser.

"Active" fragility unexpected
on April 9, 2018

The screen lasted two days until being dropped from a height of two feet onto plush carpet. Shattered despite being in case-mate tough stand case. Possibly a lemon; otherwise not recommended.

Glass scratches easy.

I bought the Active S8 because I loved my Active S5 that I had for 3 years and how durable it was. I'd still be using it if it didn't act up and stop charging, battery was good but wouldn't charge when it was plugged in. I had my Active S8 for a year now and I'm pleased with it other than that the first week I had it the glass got scuffs and scratches on it from being in my pocket. I figured that since it had unbreakable glass that it would not scratch so easy. I was wrong; for what you pay for this phone the glass should not scuff or scratch this easy and you think you wouldn't need to buy a screen protector. This is a good phone but if you think your getting a phone that has a really tough screen, get a screen protector. If it weren't for the glass scuffing so easy I would of given it 5 stars.
