Great New Model

I started on the Active line of phones last year and this is a great new version. My only gripe is the back isn't as "grabby/rubberized" as last year's model. Now on to the good points. I really like the bigger screen. It's also very durable. I've already dropped it twice on hard floors and not even a scratch. I rarely used the active button on the last version so it changing to Bixby is a "meh" for me. I really like the iris scanner for security on this phone. Works perfectly. I also like that you can pin or unpin the bottom bar on the screen for "open tabs", "home" and "back". This is a great upgrade to the Active line.

Very disappointed

I have always been a huge fan of the Samsung Galaxy phones. When I've purchased one they've lasted years with no problems. I still have my first Galaxy, which I let my children play various games on when we're taking long road trips. The last one I got was a Samsung Galaxy S5 that lasted through several owners before I inherited it from my mom. When the screen finally shattered after getting dropped one too many times, I upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active.
I chose it because of the supposed durability of the phone. I have two young kids that keep me very active (sports, hikes, rock climbing, bike riding, camping, etc) and I thought this would be the best choice for any "oops" that happened while we were out and about.
I've had the phone 3 weeks. In the first couple of days, the screen got many small scratches from pulling it in and out of my pocket. Then my daughter knocked it off the seat of our van and a rock has become imbedded in the screen within the first week of having it.
Now, it's frozen. Since the back is bolted on, I can't remove the battery to see if that will help. Hopefully the battery dies and whatever the problem is resolves itself upon restarting.
The two great things about the phone? The battery fully charged lasts me a couple of days and it takes great pictures.

Better in so many ways! Screen size, resolution and user interface all improved. Retinal scanner is very cool and fast. Takes a little getting used to it, but after a couple of weeks of heavy use I love it. My wife and kids are jealous of the photo quality compared to their Iphone 7's and we just went on a week long trip to Alaska where we took tons of photos in multiple lighting conditions. Its now as nice looking as other less durable phones and no worry of breakage. Oh yea, battery that just wont quit.

S8 Active Finally

Finally in. I love the Galaxy Active Versions for their durability. I have broken screens on multiply phones, not with the Active. I was barely able to wait for the S8 Active, but happy I did. Moving data and apps over from my S5 Active was real easy and fast with the app. Battery life so far is amazing. Home screen and short cuts work nice, even pop up menus for further actions. Camera is amazing.
If it as durable as my S5 Active, you would not be disappointed with this phone.

Known issue with VoLTE, if you need WiFi calling and or HD Voice working reliably purchase something else or an iPhone. Ultimately purchased a Huawei Mate 10 Pro after 3 separate returns, will never consider Samsung ever again.

I've been an iPhone guy since the first iPhone and just switched to Android and the s8 active. It's an awesome phone. The battery life is stellar. I actually like the weight of the phone. I love the flat screen. Not the biggest fan of the curved infinity display on the s8. My only complaints is I hate bixby and the bixby button. From doing research the active line will probably never see software updates so probably no Oreo. With those only 2 complaints I can posatively say I will not return to the iPhone. Even the new iPhone 8 that's about you come out.

Loved my BB Passport until it started dying. Been using a GalaxyS7 Edge for work so decided on the S8 Active. Great phone, even better than the S7 Edge. Very durable and seems to be well made. The biggest downside it the lack of accessories for this phone. You will be hard pressed to find a nice cover especially to support wireless charging. Battery life is much better than the S7 edge, can make it through an entire day of average use without stopping to charge.

Samsung 8 Active

Finally after four years, updated the first ever Samsung Active to this model. Being in the Army is real tough on these devices and especially in maintenance and aviation environments. I like the toughness of the product, ability to sweat through your uniform, drop it and just basically consider it Soldier proof! The systems are okay, I did not like that applications not used in recent times were automatically added to the phone based upon my google account, but oh well. Great phone, camera and storage compared to my old device. Have to get used to Bixby and a few other things, but if you want a good device that can handle tough times, this is it. y work iPhone has a nice crushed screen on it, this thing can basically be driven over and still work!
