I love the Active line for the durability, but I liked my S7 a lot better than the S8. While the battery life is certainly better, the ridiculous placement of the fingerprint sensor next to the camera lens on the back makes it pretty much unusable. The placement of the earphone jack in the bottom was also not well thought out. The jack was much more easier for me to access when it was on the top. Just like any other Samsung, it is also full of bloatware. The only reason I stick with the Actives is because they stand up to my clumsiness. It certainly is not for their well-designed phones. I'm going to do a lot more research on other brands before I buy my next phone, and I think my Samsung loyalty is about to come to an end.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Sooo tough!

I've been using this phone for 2yrs now and it's still going strong! Dropped hundreds of times set on daily (i carry it in back pocket) never had a case for it either or screen cover. Water proof! Has been to the bottom of a 4 ft pool atleast 6 times and washed off in the sink more time than i can count. Battery still last 12-14hrs. Although usb C charge port is getting bad i just wireless charge it now. Games work well apps work well and nightly netfix are great to. Overall the best phone ive ever had. Left my new iphone x and went back to my galaxy s8 active!

Not as good as the 7 Active

I had the Active 7 and it was bulletproof. Replaced it with the Active 8 because the 7's battery started to aggressively diminish - was so bad it was down to about an hour (unacceptable - but another story - probably planned obsolescence/software trickery)
So got the Active 8, was very happy with it for the first 4 months until my daughter dropped it maybe a total of 3 inches from her hand to the cup holder in my car and the screen cracked- Not a very impressive performance around ruggedization.
Hopefully Samsung corrects this fragility in its next version. Buyer beware on this one.
