Features a shatter-resistant screen¹

1. Except screen will shatter when falls off couch onto floor - all within two days of getting the phone. I have never broken a screen on a smart phone and I bought my first one about 6 years ago. For the past 4 years, I have sworn by Samsung's Active series having bought the Active 4 and 6. The Active 8 falls far from its lineage. I would not suggest this to anyone.
Pros: Bright display
Cons: Poor quality, shatter-resistance lies, non-durable

Had Samsungs Galaxys since S3 came out. From S5 to S8 Samsung created inferior products. Only S3 and S4 were really good phones. Just got my S8, dropped it in the water and got the bubbles, which means it wasn't factory sealed well. Of course, next day it dies. You just can't ADVERTISE that " it is water-resistant in up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. " when the phone brakes immediately once you drop it in the water. Same thing happened with S6 active, S7 Active. I was ready to make the move to iPhone but I wanted to give Samsung one more chance with the S8. Again, I was disappointed.
Cons: not waterproof at all
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Longest lasting battery!

I've had this phone about 6 weeks and I love it! I'm getting almost 2 full days on a single charge plus it's fast too. O purchased a silicone skin for it as it's pretty slick to hold without it. I also added a screen protector (JIC). Only real downside is it's an expensive phone.
Pros: Bright display, Durable
Cons: expensive

I know the phone is not a edge phone and that's ok but i don't like the way they changed the front of the phone around.
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Did not meet expectations

Cons: glass gets scratched to easily, nobody sells covers 4 it. I hope the company will allow is a discount on screen replacement.....going to need it!

Unreasonable Settings Complexity

I have spent 2 months, now, reading guides to JUST SET UP MY SETTINGS. It's impossible! I wanted to be able to give this phone a great review but, it's not really feasible.
In all seriousness to disable notifications go to Settings > notifications
Simple, right? Nope!
Notification settings have 3 DIFFERENT pages of settings, that I have found, so far.
Settings > Notifications

Settings > Lock Screen and Security > Notifications

Even still I receive notifications from apps with no permission to do so. Then, the icing on the cake, is that every hour certain apps GIVE THEMSELVES NOTIFICATION ACCESS! It's usually the apps that have notifications you can't swipe away. I have resigned myself to never being able to have a non-cluttered lock screen.
Think about that and remember that Google Location keeps track of everywhere you go, and how you get there... sending it to a company famous for meticulously building a profile on YOU. "So disable it, then!" Well, other apps can remove my blockages so...

Why the 1 stars?
Features: You have to set up your features... and the settings are impossible to locate: it makes sense why google is so involved in this phone because, you're going to be Googling an awful lot to try setting this guy up.
Performance: well, the settings are how you optomize performance... enough said.
Design: The phone is capable of surviving an atomic bomb, it seems... and by the time you're done trying to configure it, you'll be begging to test that theory. The menus are part of program design and thus, all it's snazzy looks are outweighed by it's impractical layout.
Value / Overall: the phone does whatever it wants and hides it's setting all over the place. It's like they started make menus and realized they forgot features on those menus. Instead of remaking the menu with all the relevant information in one place, they just kept adding menus. More than that half the menus are hats, on hats, on hats, with very little distinction between this menu or that... but hey the last menu didn't change anything so this one has to, right? Wrong. If you can't use it effectively it has no value.

Pros: Durable, heavy as sin (great for self defense?)
Cons: a phone and a little voyeur in your pocket, impossibly complex settings menus, inability to control apps (dangerous), 12 hours to charge fully without the speed charge

Great phone with great features

Best Active phone yet. Performance is great, everything on the phone opens and operates quickly. I put a tempered glass protector on it right away due to reviewers stating that the screen can scratch easily. The battery life is incredible, better than most phones for sure. You can easily make it through a day or more without charging. The screen is awesome, colors are vivid and true. No issues during calls so far. Now there are 2 things about the S8 Active I don't care for. The Bixby button should be able to be remapped to whatever I like, kinda like the S7 Active. Instead it can only be disabled. I use a third party app to remap the button. So not really that big a deal, just a minor annoyance. Also, the lack of physical buttons bothers me. I like them better than the on-screen capacitive buttons. Again, not a huge deal but something I'd rather not have. Overall, the phone is perfect for me because I hate having to baby my phone all the time and the S8 Active is a tough phone that can take some punishment. I need the extended battery life as I'm a heavy user throughout the day for work.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Durable
Cons: no physical buttons, can't remap bixby button without third party app

Great Phone but Get a Screen Protector

The most common complaint I have seen on this phone is how easily the screen can scratch. As common with newer shatterproof screens, they are more prone to surface and hairline scratches. I invested in a ZAGG screen protector and since the S8 Active has a flat screen as opposed to a curved edge one that the S8 and S8+ has, it went on flawlessly and stays put.
As for the phone itself, it's bulky, but I love the added feeling of extra protection on the sides and back instead of the all glass casing used in other models. The 64GB internal memory is massive, but the biggest draw is the huge battery (4000 mAh). It will easily last a full day or longer with regular everyday use.
I would highly recommend it with a screen protector!
