Dependable and rugged -- except --

This is the second Galaxy "S" phone I've had in the past 5 years, and neither phone disappointed. I traded up from the S7 Edge a little over a year ago. The S7 always felt fragile -- even though I never abused it. The S8 Active feels like a tank compared to the S7. It's bigger and slightly heavier and I'm not as afraid of dropping
it. The ONLY complaint I had with the S7 -- screen burn-in. After about 6 months, I could see the ghosts of app icons past.
A year on, the ONLY complaint I have with the S8 -- the same as the S7: Screen burn-in. Even with screen time-out, it's happening already.
Otherwise, this phone is awesome.

Heavy, vulnerable screen, slippery

Great technology. Long battery life. Very heavy. Screen protector mandatory or scratching will be instantaneous. Slips off slightly inclined surfaces, or flat surfaces if the charger cord has significant weight, and hits the floor readily.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

S8 Active used to be great. Now, the phone does constant updates, changes all types of settings, and doesnt send messages properly. Hate to say it, but I may be going to iPhone,

So many times i have accidentally bumped, dropped, or splashed my phone with no worry that it was beyond repair. I am so very thankful that Samsung has made this type of phone available. Please SAMSUNG always keep this option available!

I bought my Samsung s6active and it lasted me two years before the screen finally went black. since it was my first active phone I put it to the test. consistently dropping it in front of iphone users and taking it in the water to show off.

I've had the "Active" version of Galaxy since the Galaxy 5 or 6, and it's the best decision ever! I work in the field often, and have fun in the outdoors often as well.
This phone has survived falls from moving trucks, falling and spending 1.5 hour in the shore where the waves break and curl inwards in the beach (which was quite rocky), full days in boat outings, falling on (and dipping into) the snow (including rolling down with me while snowboarding), being turned into a makeshift toy car and dragged around the floor by a toddler; and many, many random falls form my clumsy hands.
This is the definition of sturdy! If you need a phone that can endure harsh conditions, both natural and human-made, this is your phone.

I was issued the Galaxy S8 for my job as a Government Heavy Mobile Mechanic and was not happy to have the responsibility and financial obligation for it if it were damaged. I've had it with me in every situation and weather, crawling, climbing, grease covered hands, construction sites, swamps, snow, hurricane rains. No case and its still works perfectly, with no added care to protect it in my pocket. last week while changing hydraulic fluid on an excavator, the phone fell from my pocket into a 20 gallon tank of Hydraulic fluid. I had to reposition myself to reach into the tank and get it, about 20-30 seconds before pulling it out. I wiped it off, used my air compressor to blow it out and low and behold it no issues. it never missed a step, not a single issue to this point 8 days later. I will be purchasing this phone for my personal, never buying a iPhone again.
