I smoked meats as a boy/teenager with my late father (who welded his own out of old steel drums), but I haven't smoked anything in decades without him. After falling in love with some fresh home-smoked pulled pork at a family reunion recently, I thought I'd relight that old fire in my life.
I ordered this Dyna-Glo unit -- a great value and inexpensive shipping -- and an offset fire-box, just like my dad built. It went together in a snap...like in 15 minutes without rushing. All it's functions, adjustable racks, inlet/outlet regulators are very simple/intuitive and easy to use. I fired it up early the next morning to smoke a Boston Butt and a Lamb shoulder with some apple wood. Smelling it cook all day took me back 30 years. Everyone in the neighborhood loved the aroma and the meal....plus leftovers for a week! And now my 6 and 9 year old kids are beginning their olfactory memories of their dad's outdoor cookin'!
My father-in-law uses a "Green Egg" with an automated electric air intake to control the temperature. It's a rather hands-off/convenient technological way to smoke, but it was disappointing to me on two levels. First, tending the pit is part of the primordial art and fun of cooking a hunk of animal with live fire. Secondly, the Green Egg (or I imagine any tightly sealed and insulated smoker) goes through a lot less char wood and seasoning wood...so there is just a lot less smoky flavor in these outdoor "ovens" in my opinion. Everyone commented what a nice smokey flavor the pulled pork had.
I'll be buying some of these DynaoGlo offset smokers as gifts for my brothers and sisters! I'll feel like I'm giving them a memory of our father, too.

Bought this smoker couple months of ago. I am very happy with it very good quality. Its easy to assembly and get setup. Very minor smoke leaks around the door and where the firebox connects to the main chamber but not enough to affect the flavor of the meat as most of it goes out the chimney. Temperature is fairly easy to maintain cause I smoked a couple of steaks at about 200 degrees.

We got this smoker about a month or so and have used it to smoke everything from bacon to ribs to a Boston butt and today I smoked two chubs of baloney and so sausage links , I could not ask for a better smoker for me and my wife , the door is starting to loose a little smoke so I'm going to get me some firebox rope and seal it off , not a problem at all , like I said I love this smoker

Best Smoker Ever...

I used to use a barrel-type smoker from another maker for years, until my wife bought me this Dyna-Glo vertical smoker. Having already been experienced in the workings of smoking, I was anxious to see what this one would do. My first smoke, after seasoning per the instructions, was an Angus tri-tip with a Santa Maria marinade, using a mix of apple and cherry wood chips soaked in about 1/2 cup of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, and estimated the smoking time at about three hours. The smoker performed beyond my wildest expectations, and I ended up with a beautiful 1/4" smoke ring, and a flavor unlike anything I had done in the past. They say it is not the tools, but the master, but I have to disagree. This smoker made all the difference. I have since smoked many various meats, sometimes using all six shelves, with excellent results. Am I happy with my Dyna-Glo vertical smoker? Ask my friends and family. They will tell you...

I won this in a contest and its proven pretty good. Its small and lightweight, comes in handy for smoking for the family. I have 2 old fuel oil tanks welded together on a trailer and it takes a lot to fire off that pit for something small. Give this a 2 thumbs up!!
