Overall I'm happy with my purchase. I'm impressed that I am able to grind the darkest and oilest of coffee beans without fail, clogging or bogging down. The grinder is of substantial weight and good quality except the glass container that the grinds fall into. It is very thin and fragile. It actually makes me a bit nervous when using. I'm hoping in the future Kitchenaid will offer a replacement bottom glass cylinder as substantial as the top glass hopper which holds the whole beans.

After reading an article in the NYT about how a good burr grinder is vital for good coffee, we decided to look for one. I did fairly extensive research on line and also asked a friend who is very fussy about coffee. I looked at many models with fancy features (built in scales, timers, etc.) but decided that the important thing is reliability and an even grind, especially at the coarse end of the spectrum, since we use a French press. The Kitchenmaid appealed because of its robust build of metal and glass and its simple design. So far we are very pleased: the ground beans are quite even in consistency, the grinder is easy to use, and the coffee is vastly better than when we used our blade grinder. I do wish that the Kitchenmaid were a bit smaller and quieter, but I suppose that would compromise its robustness

I have only had the machine a short time. That said, it is very well made. The grind process is relatively quiet and the resulting coffee is milled to my satisfaction. I do not use the machine to produce multiple variations of grind. I use it to produce coffee that is good for drip and French press brewing. I purchased this to replace a 50 year old KitchenAid coffee mill. I was influenced by the high quality and durability of the older machine.
I bought another brand which is OK but I never got my mind off of the Kitchenaid that I really wanted . I am very pleased. While it leaves behind a lot of ground coffee to clean it's easy to clean using the brush provided.

I switched to a pour over style of coffee, and experimented with a fresh grind. The adjustment is easy, just turn the dial, and it consistently burr grinds perfectly. It is fairly air tight, you can fill the top bowl with beans, and I use a scale to weigh mine out of the bottom. If I grind too much today, the excess sits and waits for the next time. The grind looks like it's effervescent when the hot water is added. No regrets, it's doing a fantastic job these last few months. Hey, and it's a beautiful and functional piece that sits on the counter.
We recently had to replace our Burr grinder- the first one we had since 2002! We use it multiple times a per day and really consider it a necessity in our kitchen! So happy the Kitchen Aid is still making it!

We have had this coffee grinder since 2002- use it many, many times per day- works like a charm. During our last move, the glass carafe cracked, I was able to find one online (after some searching)- whew, not quite the same quality as the original but close. LOVE it (we have the Pewter color).

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When trying this found a little bit of a problem with static but next time I used it I put some beans in then a couple drops of water on the beans and it helped on the static problem. Just a few drops of water not much.
