I used an Otterbox Defender on my iPhone 4 and loved it—six years without a crack. Comparatively, I find that the Defender for the iPhone 7 is much stiffer at the "joints," which makes it a bit of a fight to access the power button or plug-in. The plastic over the home button functions well, but sometimes unsticks from the button if it hasn't been touched for a while, and then when it's touched again, the plastic tends to bunch. Finally, I find that my pretty mint-green case tends to dirty very easily—after just a week (and keeping relatively clean hands), there is already visible grey film on the case. :(

This is my third Otterbox Purchase and I love it! Tri-Layer protection (plastic inner lined with soft shock absorber, with a rubber outer layer), built-in screen protector, and no openings exposed except cameras, microphones and receivers. Also, the colors are awesome!!! BTW Otterbox cases come with a warranty; so make sure you contact them if anything doesn't fit right!!!! Thanks Otterbox!

Still slim enough to fit in my front pocket

Yes this case may make my phone twice as thick as no case at all but it's still slim enough to fit in my front jean pocket. Having dropped my phones several times over the years and seeing dozens of people using phones with shattered screens I don't know why anyone would chance not using a quality case such as the Defender

We upgraded three of our iPhones and desired quality cases with both style and good protection for the new phones. The OtterBox cases came highly recommended and those recommendations appear to legitimate. The fit and finish are perfect. The phone responds well inside the case and screen cover. The small flaps that cover the lightning port and silent switch fit well and should hold up. If I were to have any complaint, it would be that the silent switch on the side of the iPhone, which is quite small, is tucked pretty far inside the case opening and it may be a little tough to access, especially in a hurry or if wearing gloves. As this is not likely to happen very often, I really do not see this as being a problem. The other buttons on the phone respond pretty well, so silencing the phone or adjusting the volume should not present any problems. I am very impressed with the rugged, yet comfortable feel of the case. The case does add some bulk to the phone, but I have no problem with the feel and it fits easily into my pants pocket, which is where I prefer to carry my phone. And though I am in no hurry to test it, I believe this case should help to prevent most damage from an accidental drop from a reasonable height. The iPhone 7 is supposed to be somewhat water resistant on it's own, but this case may possibly help in that regard, as well, from an accidental spill or quick dunk. Great case for a good price.
