I bought a case for my wife's iPhone 7, and was completely satisfied. She previously had 2 separate lifeproof cases, both of which broke after drops. I've had several generations of Otterbox Defender and they've all been great. My only complaint is that they tend to be bulkier than other cases, but the protection is worth the extra bulk.
This is the 3rd otter box cover i’ve Bought. I had them on my previous 2 phones also and I just couldn’t be without one now. They keep the phone so well protected. My phones have had many knocks and falls but never get damaged due to my otter box wouldn’t use any other cover.
It fits good. It feels good. Grippy rubber. I don’t like that Otterbox changed the connector door. Old one opened from top. The charging plug went in very easily. This new one opens from the bottom up. It is harder to get the plug in and out. Maybe they had to change this because the newer phone is thinner, I don’t know, just guessing. I like having my phone on my belt because pockets aren’t big enough.
I've been an enthusiastic Otterbox user for years, and I loved the Otterbox Defender case I had for my iPhone 5s. I recently updated to an iPhone 8 and promptly bought a new Defender to go with it. While it seems fairly robust, the direction of the flaps covering the mute switch and the usb port have been reversed so that when you are holding the phone screen up, the flap opens toward you, obscuring a view of the port and switch. So now I have to turn the phone *upside down* to see the usb port, which, when I'm using the phone in the car with a phone holder, is pretty much impossible. Imagine threading a needle with your eyes closed, and you'll get a sense of what a poorly thought out redesign this is. While the phone seems well enough protected, it is less functional than it was before. Further, the material used for the case also seems more 'plasticized' and less rubbery, which makes it feel more likely to slide when placed on a flat surface. I used to say that my 5s Defender was a great case; at best, I'd call this one adequate.

Hi DrLJ,
We're bummed to hear that you're not loving the silicone charging port covers on this Defender series! While the updated design might take some getting used to, we're pretty positive that after some time and use, plugging in your phone should start to feel more like second nature. If you run into any additional questions, please feel welcome to call our playful Otters at 1-855-688-7269, and they'll happily provide further assistance!
We have used Otterbox Defenders for many years and our iPhones stay in pristine condition. They are very durable. Busy lifestyles make our phones vulnerable to drops & spills, but they are always protected by their Otterbox Defenders. We will continue to be Otterbox Defender Customers!
Had to go overseas for about ten days with a new iPhone but the Otter Box had not yet arrived. Based on experience with the previous iPhone and Otter Box, this was a calculated risk requiring tedious "kid gloves" care. Was delighted to return and install the replacement Otter Box protector. Holster, however, is clumsy and breaks with minimal effort.
