The Joule was my first experience with sous vide and I cannot image going back to not having it. The app works great and I love the personality and experience that the brand offers. I have had a few minor bugs causing the Joule to not work but can overlook that given all the benefits I've gained from it.

I use my Joule Sous Vide at least once a week. I cater parties from 12 to 100 people so I have two Joule units and wide range of pots, coolers, and Sous Vide containers that I use. PROS: The joule is compact, powerful and efficient. It works off an App that not only lets me control temp and time, it gives me pop up recipes if I need them. Being small and light makes the Joule very portable. I usually set up the Sous Vide on the table next to my smoker or grill so my transition from cooking to browning or searing is efficient and clean. Running my Joule off of my phone or tablet allows me to walk away from the cooking but still monitor the progress and status of the dish. ChefSteps support is great, I've never had an occassion to contact them for problems but they have a lot of experience with cooking Sous Vide and will share their wisdom and secret Sous Vide tips. CONS: This may not be a "CON" for everyone but I'm sure it is for many. . .it only works off of an App. Unlike other Sous Vide cookers, there is no display on the Joule, no way to use it without a Bluetooth device like a tablet or phone and the app. That's okay for me but for a lot of my friends that practice Sous Vide cooking, they want to be able to control all aspects of the cooking right at the Sous Vide. Joule only lets you turn it on or off at the unit but not allow you to set time and temp at the device. In summary, the Joule is one of the most powerful consumer Sous Vide cookers on the market in its class. It is easy to use and maintain and literally provides hours of maintenance free cooking. I've used my Joule to cook nonstop for 48 hours without a glitch, average cooking times for me is 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the entree.
