Reinvention of the old vacuum siphon coffee makers used by restaurants and diners back in the day. Great update of a classic, the brewing process is entertaining to watch, makes great American coffee. Minor issues: doesn't keep brewed coffee hot; brew unit a little tricky to clean; small piece of plastic from carafe handle fell off (carafe being replaced by manufacturer under no-hassle warranty). Verdict: a little quirky to use, but I'm enjoying the coffee.

Nice design, easy to use to extract greater flavors from you

So far so good. I tend not to look for perfection in new technology devices. Nor am I a coffee aficionado. Overall a sound product built for a general consumer for quick repetitive use. If you're a automatic drip coffee drinker looking for an option to get a little more flavor or boldness out of your coffee this siphon is for you. If your style is a French press tinkerer with stringent recipes (water temp/time) you will be disappointed.
Like all Kitchenaid appliances it is rugged and foolproof to setup and use. And a little more time will be needed to determine the reliability and value. It tends to be a totally new experience in making coffee. Fun to watch the brewing cycle. It automatically manages many of the steps of a French press, heating the water, stirring pressing,timing and so on...... Clean up tends to be a little awkward at first until you establish a groove. I suspect this will be the biggest complaint Nice design, easy to use to extract greater flavors from your coffee. I've use a French press and I'm use to managing the wet coffee grounds clean up. I find the Kitchenaid Siphon easier to clean. I highly recommend acquiring a couple drain screens such as a Daco 4 ½ inch kitchen mesh screen, drain screen, allowing you to rinse the grounds through the siphon tube into the screen(s). Then discard the grounds into trash or container, I use a large soft drink cup and place the screen and grounds to sit on top and drain. Takes me less than a couple minutes to clean up the siphon with the screens and a long handle kitchen brush to scrub the insides. A little Bar Keeper Friend once in a while cleans up the inside of the brewer removing buildup.
Over all I'm happy with the Coffee Siphon. My wish list would be, add an option to adjust the time the Siphon is agitation the Coffee at the end of the brewing cycle. I would prefer a little more time. As well I would like to see a warming cycle on the design, easy to use to extract greater flavors from your coffee coffee pot after the brewing is complete.

We purchased the brewer to replace a conventional drip coffee machine. We have been using only Kona coffee for the last 12 years and had high expectations for the brewer. Our expectations have been met for the quality of the brewed coffee. The brewed coffee is much smoother than the coffee from the drip machine. Cleaning the brewer is a bit more work than simply throwing away a used drip filter but, it is worth it. We will not be going back to conventional drip machines any time soon.

This was a gift that keeps on giving. The function is so interesting to watch and the coffee is very smooth. This replaced a traditional automatic drip pot which made somewhat acidic coffee even with frequent cleaning. The filters can be a bit annoying (slipping) and the fact that the base unit does not keep the coffee warm is a negative, but if you pour it into a thermo carafe, you can enjoy the coffee all morning. This feature would make it near perfect.
