[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Turns out your grandmother forgot more than you ever learned about brewing coffee at home. Vacuum coffee brewing is a gift from the coffee brewing gods that KitchenAid has taken and brought to a state of euphoric perfection. Ignore all those who would suggest that you bypass the cloth filter and use it as directed. What you will get for you minimal pains is a cup of coffee that actually tastes like the beans you used. This coffee maker is built very well and is easy to use and clean. Buy good beans and enjoy. A word to the wise; a lighter roast is where this extraction method shines.

Takes a few tries to nail down. Seems to be sensitive to how fine your coffee grounds are to get the exact kind of coffee you prefer. Of course how much coffee is placed in to the top carafe. Once you have it figured out you'll get a consistent perfect cup.

Brings back memories

I remember my parents had a Sunbeam that worked this way in the mid 50's. Very pleased with the taste of the coffee, but comparing it to the 50's model, the cloth filter clipped between two mesh filters, it was easy to remove, clean and use again and didn't have to be tied on and untied to remove to clean. The filter also extended down and hooked to the bottom of the syphon and was very secure. I've had a few times when the pressure of the water flowing up into the upper pot blew the filter out, even with making sure that the filter was securely in place. What a mess! Also, in this day in time, there should be a hold warm feature.

THE BEST COFFEE EVER!

We bought this in March 2018 as a birthday present to ourselves. In my past I was not much of a coffee drinker, maybe 1 or 2 cups a week. I could take it or leave it, however on the other hand my husband loves his coffee in the morning! Now we have about 12 different kinds of coffee and I drink 1 or 2 cups each morning and decaf at night. All the bitterness is gone and the full flavor comes through to delight your taste buds.
The only problem we now is that this morning we discovered that the coffee pot handle has broken at the bottom. Not sure what the warranty is good for and now we need a replacement.

Well-thought out innovations

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using this item just over a week. I like siphon-style coffee a lot, and have made it on and off for decades; I usually use it as an every-morning pot. To some extent, siphon coffee is siphon coffee; it's all pretty good. The KitchenAid has a number of interesting, well though out innovations though.
The magnetic latch is super. It means the rubber gasket is quite small and feels sturdy, thus eliminating a failure point of many competing siphon brewers. Every brewer I have had ultimately broke or cracked on the long glass siphon tube, so KitchenAid's replacing that tube with a stainless steel one is a great move. Then, because the siphon tube isn't an extension of the top chamber, the interface between the filter and the vacuum is exceptionally large, so the vacuum process goes very very fast realtive to anything I have used. As a result you'll need to use a little more coffee -- you don't have that long slow pull through the grounds, but, I _think_ that's a good thing? The coffee feels a little less bitter to me this way and I can't imagine you could easily clog up the filter.
I have not used the cloth filter and probably won't. I have twice made the mistake of thinking the filter was locked into place when it wasn't, ugh. But I think I am getting the hang of it and it isn't a serious long-term problem.
The only innovation not so good is pouring out the last cup or two is not great; it's tricky. I have only made 6 or 8 cup batches because traditionally siphon brewers work poorly for small quantities, but, maybe I'll give 4 cups a try and update this.
The whole thing feels solid and well built.

Where do I get replacement filter assemblies?

This is a very nice electric powered coffee syphon. Only one problem. Kitchen Aid does not sell extra filter assemblies. A syphon uses a cloth over wire or nylon filter. It absorbs the flavor of the coffee. If your wife likes Texas Pecan, and you like unflavored coffee, you are scr*w*d. If you wife makes coffee in your syphon, you are stuck with a filter assembly that tastes like Pecans.

I love the coffee this brewer makes

I have owned this machine for 20 months and I would be happy to keep using it for 20 years more. It is fast, the coffee is smooth with no bitter taste. I am a big enough coffee snob to even roast my own beans and I have used everything for the super automatic expresso machines to the AeroPress. Nothing made a cup of coffee taste as good as this does. Thanks KitchenAid. Oh, and I have bought 2 more to give to friends and they love it too.
