Adequate low-cost 4K Blu-ray player with a small footprint and Dolby Vision

I purchased this Philips 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player because I had some specific requirements: 1) A lightweight player with minimal depth; 2) Capable of Dolby Vision, and; 3) low-cost. Of the budget players I researched, this was the only one that was capable of Dolby Vision and met my other requirements.
In terms of value (bang for the buck), the player is very good. The picture quality from the player is great and most of the functionality you'd expect is there. The load time is a bit slow, but the drive is relatively quiet both during loading and playing.
The BDP 7502 is lacking a bit in bells and whistles, but that's to be expected in a budget player. The options for video, audio, network, and general control are adequate but don't have the same degree of versatility as more expensive players. The very basic information shown when pressing the Info key is really too basic to be useful.
I haven't tested the Dolby Vision feature yet since I have the player connected to a Sony UHD TV, and those with Sony's X1 Extreme Processor chip still haven't had the firmware update to enable Dolby Vision.
I've had only a few problems worth mentioning: 1) When Fast Forwarding or using Next/Prev Chapter, the player sometimes hangs up and/or drops the optical connection to my Polk soundbar, and ; 2) If I don't have a USB stick in the player when it starts, it usually hangs up.
All in all, not a bad player for the price, with basic controls and very good image quality. But if you're looking for more control and features you might be disappointed with the BDP 7502.
Pros: price, small footprint, very good picture quality
Cons: not as robust as more expensive players, lack of any front display info, occassionally quirkly
I would recommend this to a friend!

Disks "Not Supported"
on March 9, 2019
Posted by: Tankerbell
The first year I had this blue ray player it worked great, it plays 4k disks with no problem, but with DVDs and regular Blu Ray disks I will sometimes have to eject and try to reload the disk up to 20+ times in order for it to play. It will tell me the disk is unsupported, but eventually play it, so it is clearly supported...
