In my opinion it does not perform any better than my old SensoTouch 3D Shaver.
I retired my SensoTouch 3D Shaver because the replacement heads got way too expensive – for those of you still using this shaver, you can change it to the same head as the 9000 series.
One regret that I have is not going with the 9400 because I really don’t see the need for a digital readout for remaining battery life, whereas the bar display on the 9400 is more than adequate.
The high and low speed adjustment is a bit of a gimmick – who would shave at less than full speed and power?

I’ve just received a warranty replacement cleaning station.
The cleaning fluid pump in the cleaning unit failed – the little electric motor shaft corroded right through and the impeller fell off.

The head partially detaches with the slightest sideways force while shaving causing the drive coupling to disengage and screech.
The head almost falls off.

Norelco 9700 series is unnecessarily complicated. The shaving heads must be "yanked" off to clean. (What was wrong with the previous design?) The liquid cleaning contraption, again, what a mess. The battery life which used to be 2 hours is now 1 hour. Speaking of the battery, you lose 5% power as it just sits overnight. The trimmer that used to be attached is now nothing but a hassle to attach and remove. Now toss in no protective cap and no stand- you can't even buy as accessories. Who thought up these changes? Had to be profit motivated, not customer beneficial. The only positive is the shave itself is still about the same. I have bought only Norelco for 50 years. NO MORE.

It´s very easy to use, it´s friendly. The battery charges fast. Easy to clean. Does not irritate the skin. I use it with a pre shave liquid.

More Norelco gimmicks

Once again, Norelco comes up with new gimmicks to grab two C-notes from your wallet. The real catch is the silly cleaning system that further drains your wallet by buying new cleaning cartridges all the time. Any man loves a new electric razor because it gives a good shave. But as time goes on, the blades wear down and Norelco will charge you a premium price to replace them. Shaving is any man's daily chore and we just want to get it done and go to work. We don't need ridiculous gimmicks on a shaver that blinks LED lights about various features. Oh, how cute, a new three speed option setting...any guy will dial up the highest speed for a fast shave and let the sensitive wimps use the low speed. I can't wait to see what new gimmicks Norelco will come up with next year.

Cons: worthless gimmicks galore, ongoing expense buying new cleaning cartridges, high cost replacement heads

Excellent quick shave

This razor replaces a Norelco razor that was at least 40 years old (even though its blades were replaced not that long ago). The new razor gives a very smooth, close shave in very little time, very few passes over my face. The heads warm up so it is almost pleasurable to shave. The cleaning unit is kind of bulky but effective. I have not had the problem of the cleaning cycle starting when the razor is not installed, however you want to keep your hand away from the surface with the on/off button and status lights on it because it seems that a very light touch even close to the on/off button will start the cycle.
Pros: close smooth and fast shave
Cons: somewhat bulky cleaning unit

I was very surprised at how bad the shave was. For the 9000 series, the best of the best and to give a shave as poorly as it did. I gave it time, tried dry, with water, with electric shave gel, shaving lotion and even just soap. It will lather soap well. In the end I always had to go behind the electric with a blade to get a nice smooth shave.
If you were stuck with no water or any other way to shave, then ok. But if you like the feel of a close clean shave do NOT buy this razor. I tried their other razor also with the same result. Very disappointed.
I also have a trimmer that has a simple screen attachment that actually shaved closer.
Come on Norelco, I had a trimmer before the one I just mentioned that lasted over 10 years, worked great. You are better than this.
Looks great, Charges fast. But the shave itself is not good.
