Really frustrated.

Well I don’t have a good word for this shaver.
I bought my Philips Series 9000 - S9161 - 515174028 /A - about 5 months ago.
I use it dry shave but find that it takes a very very very long time to cut all the hairs for a smooth feel.
I have been trying and trying, back and forth and circular motion but it still misses patches.
If I skip a day like on the week end then it takes a really long time for the shave.
The shaver that I had before worked much better. It was a Philips Philishave 8894, but sadly it had gotten very old.
Do all the models of 9000 series use the same cutting heads – is it possible to change the heads to improve the shave?

The shaver rocks, the cleaner doesn't

I absolutely love the shaver, it does a fine job of shaving my face. The big disappointment is the cleaning base. I had it replaced within the first year of ownership as none of the buttons on it would respond to a touch. Now, the replacement is acting up and won't respond to me pressing on the "cleaning cycle" button. It's time to see if I can get the replacement cleaning base replaced. If I can't then I will just toss it in the trash. I hope this review will dissuade others from spending the extra money for the cleaning base. Keep your money - It isn't worth it!
Pros: the shaver does a fine job of shaving my face!!, very ergonmomic and quiet
Cons: cleaning base is junk and doesn't work for long
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not happy with quality and performance.

The latest style shaver has left much to be desired. The shaver never gives me a good close shave without working on it, for way to long. The cleaning system is worthless, in my opinion, as it only worked well a few times even with changing out the solution frequently. Not having the attachment integrated into the shaver is a pain and seldom gets used, as it is a hassle to change over, with the need to place it somewhere easy to pull out and change-over. Looking for something better after never needing to think about this decision prior to buying. I have always purchased the very best from Philips with great long lasting results. Extremely disappointed!

This product performs poorly

I've used the older Norelco model 6885XL for over 20 years and it's performed well.
Within this past year I purchased the new Series S9311 due to the fact it was difficult getting replacement parts for my older 6885XL. I wish to say this shaver has never shaved as close or as quickly as my old Norelco 6885XL shaver. In fact the more I use this newer shaver the worse it performs.
I've watched the Norelco instructional videos online prior to using this new razor, and have followed the recommended maintenance and cleaning procedures carefully.
In my opinion though this Series 9000 shaver has the latest technology it does not perform as well as the old Series 6885XL. Maybe I just got a lemon, or the shaver heads were bad from the start.
I don't recommend this model to anyone with a heavy beard.

Shaver great; replacement heads trash

I have used Philips Norelco shavers for years, and always considered them to be the best of the best. I still think that about new shavers, as long as the original cutters and foils last. Then all bets are off. The "new and improved" RQ12 + and RQ 12 Pro heads are disasters. They both render great shavers almost worthless. I have no idea what Norelco was thinking when they put such trash on the market, but to make such great electronics, then shove them to the dump with these inferior replacement heads, makes the company look beyond foolish. I have bought my last Norelco product.
Pros: great electronics
Cons: trash replacement heads

I did not want the docking station.

The previous Norelco shaver I had, DID NOT have a "docking station". It just plugged in to charge it. And to clean it, I just brushed out the hairs, then rinsed it under water, let it dry, and it was perfect for the next shave. I have had my previous razor for about 7 years, with the same cutting heads, and it still shaves fine, but the battery is starting to not fully charge. I do not know why this company decided to have ALL the shavers, with this so called docking attachment. It is just an excuse to keep buying the cleaner for it. And that can add up in cost.
Pros: shaves great
Cons: docking station not wanted.

I have used this shaver for less than a year. I love how close it shaves! However, it has gotten to the point that I have to put the head back on the shaver up to 5 times while I shave only 1 time. I am so aggravated at it that I would not recommend this shaver to anyone. I am sure there are shaver made that can shave as close as this one does without the aggravation!
Pros: shaves close
Cons: shaver head comes offf easily

Best Norelco shaver yet!

As with many of the other reviewers, I have used Norelco shavers for years. I shave my head as well as my face. The main problem I have had is irritation shaving my neck and not getting a close shave on my head. This has been due to lack of flexibility of the shaver head as well as blade design perhaps I feel. With this new model I am able to shave my neck and head closely with no irritation for the first time and am amazed. I still occasionally use the blades for an extra close shave for special occasions, but it is great to finally get what I have dreamed of in an electric shaver.
Pros: flexibility, no irritation on neck area
I would recommend this to a friend!
