Razor ok, cleaning unit is not

I've had this razor for a little over 3 months now. The razor itself is just ok...I've never been as happy with the shave from an electric as with a blade, as it's just impossible for an electric to shave as close. So in that respect, the razor seems no better or worse than most other electrics I've tried, other than it being pretty expensive.
But what isn't acceptable is the SmartClean cleaning unit. It now refuses to pump any cleaning fluid at all...the cleaning icon flashes like it's working, the shaver motor activates on and off like it's supposedly working, and even the heated drying still works. But the pump doesn't seem to activate at all, and no fluid pumps at all, making the cleaning unit useless.
The shave quality is good as I have come to expect on my three previous Norelco shavers. This was the first time I ponied up the cash to get the cleaning base. My expectation was that the cleaning base would remove all hair trimmings from the shaver head and be captured, then thrown away with the monthly base fluid replacement. about 1 month into ownership, I popped the blade head off to take a look and the hair pieces were just caked to the inside. I surprised the amount of hair caked in there allowed the shaver to function properly. Anyway, now I just rinse the hair in the sink myself after each use before using the "cleaning" base.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This system provides an excellent shave! However I am now on my third shaver/cleaner combo. The cleaner units rust and suddenly stop working. The shave unit is removable from the main body of the shaver and this connection gets weaker over time until every time you shave the head unit keep separating.
I am not real happy with shaver. Do not like that I have to remove shaver head to use trimmer. Did not have to do this w/ old shaver, which is also Norelco. The shave is just ok. Nothing special.
Pros: like style
Cons: not a great shave
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Dissapointed with Philips Norelco 9300

As with many others reviewers, I have used Norelco shavers for the past 40 years with good results. I purchased the most expensive model based on my past experiences, hoping for an even better shave. I am pleased with the quality of the cut and closeness. However, the shaver head constantly falls off while shaving. It lands in the sink on the bath countertop or on the floor and there are cut beard remnants scattered everywhere that I then need to clean up. I called Phillips warranty department and they promptly send me a new head. This one is no better than the first. Very disappointed with my purchase and would not recommend their newer models with these heads.
Pros: close shave
Cons: shaver head constantly falls of while shaving
If you have thick hair, that grows fast, this shaver is the one for you !!!. All you have to do is stretch your skin when you shave for the first two weeks, and your good to go. The razor does the rest. I still stretch my skin because it’s a habit. This razor is really like no other razor you will ever use. This razor is almost like using a straight razor, like your daddy, or Grandpa used to use, that is no joke, it’s more of an understatement. This is really an awesome razor, a little pricey, but well worth it. If your on the fence, just pull the trigger on it, you won’t be disappointed. Way to go Philips!!! I am a customer for life !!!!!
Pros: easy to use !!!
Cons: none !!!!!!

I purchased a previous top of the line razor less than a year ago; model 1280 I believe. I dropped the razor about six feet breaking the head and contorting the blade assembly rendering it unusable. I was SO happy with it that I decided to order a replacement without knowing that it was replaced by the 9700 series. What a product! Love the digital readout, the advanced blade assembly, the easy cleaning and lubrication process, and the marvelous job it does at taking care of my beard! I use it with wet shaving using my favorite silver tip brush and shaving cream. My only gripe: the facial brush head assembly is not currently available.
Pros: close shave wet or dry, easy to use, flexible head makes getting neck area easy, very comfortable to use
Cons: no facial brush head assembly available
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good razor, but the cleaning solution scent is awful

The razor is a dramatic improvement over my old 2D Norelco shaver, and delivers a closer shave in much less time. As a shaver, I'm am very pleased with it.
However, the SmartClean system leaves much to be desired. The design itself seems like a great idea - innovative engineering and useful functionality. But the cleaning solution is perfumed with a scent I find completely unappealing, and the scent stays with both the razor, the unit, and my face for quite a while after use. Regardless of its functionality, the system has been rendered utterly useless to me. The unit is now unused, and I simply clean the razor with hot water and charge it by plugging the razor directly into the power cable.
I have no idea why Philips thought that perfuming the solution was necessary, and I wish they had made a better choice.
Pros: razor is excellent. shaves quickly and smoothly., a significant improvement over my 2d razor
Cons: awful perfume makes the cleaning system useless
