[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Works great and it cleans itself. Gives a nice close shave. What more could you ask for.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Unbelievably terrible shaver

I have used 3 brands of electric shavers over the previous 25 years. I shave my face and head daily, but this shaver is, by far, the worst I have ever used. I have retried my 6 year old other unit and 2 year old foil shaver just to see if maybe my beard changed. Both of those units with old blades works much better on both my face and head. This was my first attempt at a high-end shaver, hoping to get a great fast and close shave. No such luck. I don't like bashing products or posting terrible reviews, but I am so unbelievably unhappy with this product.
A budget model would give me a better shave.
Cons: clipper not built in, not a close shave at all, very pricey

Very hard to clean blades

I've had Norelco shavers for over 50 years! I bought this new one rather than just replacement blades when my other one got old. This is by far the most cumbersome razor to clean. Each round blade and screen is held in by individual orange plastic rings. Very difficult to put back together - screen, blade then orange ring. Why can't they make a 'lock' for the blades like the old razor --- it just fit over all 3 and with one easy turn, locked it in place. Poor design Norelco.... I'm unsatisfied!
The razor performance of the latest model of the Philips Norelco 9000 series is very disappointing. The razor blades for this product are not sharp at all. I am only getting a good 2 months out of the blades before I need a replacement set. The shaving process takes a good half hour to get a nice clean shave. The blades are very expensive and will not last very long. The motor seems to weaken in performance over time as well. The razor performance has not improved over the past 5 years. I would like to see an RPM display in this unit so the motor performance can be monitored. I am giving it a poor rating because the razor cutting performance is the only thing that really matters for a good clean shave.
Pros: can use in the shower to make shaving easier., cleaning system seems to work very well., charge time is very fast.
Cons: blades are dull and do not last long., blades are very expensive., motor performance degrades after a month of use.
For several years I used a competing type of electric shaver that worked in a conventional way. I had used a Norelco since my 20's, but started using another type later in life when I felt that Norelco was not the best type. I was never comfortable with the loud buzz of the other brand, but it shaved me well and I put up with it. I switched back to Norelco when I felt that the design was back to what I wanted. I'm glad I did. It shaves much better than my old razor and is so quiet that I can listen to music or the news without raising the volume. The Norelco cleaning system is also much better and quieter. All around I'm very satisfied.
Pros: close shave, extremely quiet, effective and quiet cleaning system
Cons: a bit pricey

A step backwards

I have used your shavers for more than 20 years with satisfaction...until now. You have made it extremely cumbersome to clean the heads and a key apparently to assist in removing them was missing from the packaging. It was much easier to clean the former model. It is as if you are trying to force people to buy the more expensive shaver with the cleaner unit (of which there are complaints, I note). Unfortunately, I purchased at a duty free shop at the airport so will have trouble trying to replace or refund. Very disappointing overall for such a good shaver.
I am a bald man I use the razor to shave my head as well as my face. The design of the product is good. The battery only lasts long enough to shave 1.5 times and then you have to re charge. The base runs all the time even when the razor is not in it. When I place the razor in the base it cleans all the time. It does the first cleaning and then cleans again when ever it wants. It has used three of the cleaning fluid in the last five months.
Pros: the design is good., it is comfortable to use., cleans well
Cons: not a close shave, base runs all the time, uses a lot of cleaning fluid
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Razor ok, cleaning unit is not

I've had this razor for a little over 3 months now. The razor itself is just ok...I've never been as happy with the shave from an electric as with a blade, as it's just impossible for an electric to shave as close. So in that respect, the razor seems no better or worse than most other electrics I've tried, other than it being pretty expensive.
But what isn't acceptable is the SmartClean cleaning unit. It now refuses to pump any cleaning fluid at all...the cleaning icon flashes like it's working, the shaver motor activates on and off like it's supposedly working, and even the heated drying still works. But the pump doesn't seem to activate at all, and no fluid pumps at all, making the cleaning unit useless.
