Decent Tool

Good software for straightforward tax preparation. But if you need to go back and make edits, it is often not easy to find where the data is entered, and HELP does not help. I received a reject on the federal electronic submission and the "fix" described could not be found. I called Turbotax and they could not find it either. The Turbotax solution was to snail mail it - where is the "Turbo?"
What's great about it: E filing
What's not so great: Hard to find where to edit details
Pros: I bought or sold investments

This times, when you have your desktop Quick Books running in a external server for better protection and reliability, you can't load your QB files to TurboTax because it works only local.
Any way the TT application allow you to work and collect the data but in longer time.
What's great about it: Easy to prepare
What's not so great: No loadable for external servers
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Overall good package

Package was useful and saved $ over attorney costs for creating a straight forward return.
Supporting info on screens and help not that informative. Necessary to read IRS docs for some background.
Packaging was confusing and costly for a single estate usage.
What's great about it: mostly self explanatory
What's not so great: supporting info not as informative as other TT editions

Done with CPA's...

We've hired a new CPA nearly every year for the past 5 years to manage S-corp, partnership, and personal taxes. We spent a pretty penny and they seemed to file our taxes differently. We wanted to really understand our taxes better and see if we could do it on our own. That would've been a daunting task by ourselves but I had used the very user-friendly TurboTax as a college student and remembered how great it was. If only it could handle business taxes...and it can! We've learned so much through this process and TT-Biz just made it all so much easier. THANK YOU SO MUCH. We're obviously saving a boat-load of money now but, even more important, we feel knowledgeable about our taxes. This software was a game-changer for us.
What's great about it: Explained everything so it made sense. Thorough, but I didn't get lost in the weeds
What's not so great: Couldn't get my QBSE online to sync to TTBusiness desktop software

I hate dealing with balance sheets, as is required by PA for an S corp, which we have. Explanations of how the amounts feed into the balance sheet and related forms would be great. A clearer explanation of which needs are best for which products on the back of the box, for instance, for personal taxes, I'd like more info on investment sales, what's in which product. For reference while filling out S corp, 2017 return, I went to check the 2016 forms, I was not able to open them, as my 2016 state stuff, is no longer on my PC, as I had the hard drive replaced. There could be an easier way to show 2016 forms, or be offered the 2016 state forms, as they were paid for.
What's not so great: Help, some queries, don't find anything, and a searching notice can stay up for a long time, after a while, I exit that.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

NOT suitable for non-account non-tax professionals

MUCH MUCH harder to use than I have been told for years.. "Simple" S Corp with one Shareholder took 3 1/2 DAYS to complete - then needed a paper signed and scanned 8453-S form (would have been nice to be told this PRIOR to LAST step ???) AND AFTER paying and downloading State of North Carolina - AGAIN ON THE LAST STEP I am "notified" that North Carolina cannot be eFiled?? Seriously ??? Be upfront with a realistic list of steps and time estimate - I have owned two businesses for 20+ years and I would NEVER recommend to someone else that they could "eaasily" do they business tax return themselves w TurboTax. Sorry TurboTax lovers this is NOT a product for non-accountant and is ONLY suitable for EXTREMELY well versed in Taxes and Accounting individuals
What's great about it: Did get Federal filed two hours prior to deadline
What's not so great: NOT suitable for Non-Accountants/Non Tax Professionals !!!!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Calculation Errors
on October 14, 2018

Worked with Turbotax experts for hours trying to find out where their program's calculations went wrong. We never found the issue but their CPA confirmed there was something going on. Filed with a different program after wasting days.
