amateur can do the partnership tax
on March 15, 2018

from CA
The capital partner accounts in the balance sheet are hard to understand and need more instructions. If you are small and do not have to do a balance sheet, everything is much easier. It would be better to check out the balance sheet anyway.
What's great about it: guided tour and efiling
What's not so great: balance sheet is hard to understand

Small Business - or VERY Small Business?
on March 15, 2018

We're a VERY small business. We don't have an accountant. We rely on TurboTax Business every year. This year, I goofed up ("ya can't get good help") and our S Corp return was due TODAY. I didn't even have the program installed. I downloaded the program back in November but had to "make room" on the installation drive and lost track. So, I had to install TTaxB AND get the return out NOW.
Eh... no big deal. Installation is idiot-proof. Imported last year's return and breezed through it all in about 30 minutes (did I mention, we're a SMALL business?). So I highly recommend TurboTax Business for small business owners like us.
What's great about it: Installation; Ease of Use

TurboTax for Business

I really wanted to like TurboTax for business. Since it's from Intuit, like QuickBooks, I had hoped it would work seamlessly. The opposite was true.
First, there is no Mac Version and no online version. In order to get it to work w/ QB, you need to convert to a windows file. Then you need to get a copy of QB Desktop to open the new file before anything will upload.
The categories in QB don't match those in TurboTax, making for a LOT of moving things around.
TurboTax it's self offer nearly ZERO guidance on how to proceed with filling out the forms. Even when you go to the help section, it's woefully low on information.
When I finally got to the end, it wanted me to do a balance sheet, even though one isn't required for my type of company in my state. It wouldn't let me file without completing one. This caused DAYS of additional work.
All in all, I won't be buying the product again. I'll save time and money next year going to a tax pro.
What's not so great: Not enough guidance
