I used to go to CPA for tax returns, he started charging me in $$$$, then decided to give try to software. After research online, found that Turbotax is one of the good software. I initially tried it three years ago and since then I have been using it. No problems, No penalities so far.
What's great about it: Easy to follow, you call for help.
What's not so great: None at thistime

I've been using TT for years now but every now and then I do need to consult a CPA to make sure I am doing it correctly. Still, has saved me thousands in annual tax prep fees.
What's great about it: Simple questions that are easy to follow
What's not so great: Seems like Retained Earnings in TT does not match up with RE in QuickBooks, always requires an override

My only con is the fact that the business program is not available in MAC format. I had to resurrect my Windows laptop that had been not used in a year.
What's great about it: Handled both Fed and State Returns
What's not so great: Business not available for MAC

Since I am not even close to being an accountant, I purchased TT for a trust, hoping it would give me more guidance in preparing the trust taxes for my son. There were many things in the TT trust taxes I didn't understand, for example, distribution of income % vs $ amounts and what is Tier 1 and Tier 2. Which one should I choose? More guidance there would have been appreciated. Also, I think the wording was confusing... distribution of income, vs distributions. Are they the same thing or not? Did TT forget the word income when they were referring to distributions. Needs more clarity.
What's great about it: Got through the process and mailed trust taxes!
What's not so great: Needs more explanations

When I had trouble with depreciation calculations, it backed me into a corner and I had to start over. Also, the printing and saving process didn't work correctly.
What's great about it: It got the job done
What's not so great: It had bugs in it
