Turbo Tax 2017 Review

We have used Turbotax for many years. It is simple to use and has great assistance if necessary. Because we only have standard deductions, we use the basic program. Turbotax walks you through everything you need and provides you with reports and worksheets that are required to submit your income tax report.
What's great about it: Easy for do it yourselfers
What's not so great: Expense for fixed income people

I am intimidated by the IRS and when i'm not sure if I have to or not include forms with my check, it's scary. Took me way too long for just w-2's. Next time I'll probably go to someone to file for me.
What's great about it: I could do this on my own time, and in my pj's

Great and easy program. But if you are going to have someone enter info, don't ask if you want to use the same info from last year, THEN make them go get that info and manually enter it again. Redundant. Opens the possibility for additional error.
What's great about it: Used same account from last year.
What's not so great: STILL had to go back to re-enter the #'s

Great but still needs user interface improvements

For expats I had to learn the hard way after a few hours of Googling that Expats should not list income earned abroad under the regular income section, but instead should file it under the "less common income" section so that the employer's federal ID number is not required. The checking system in Turbotax should be updated to instruct users such as myself about this instead of us having to Google the answer and spend a lot of time feeling frustrated.
What's great about it: Its the most convenient way to file taxes online.
What's not so great: Its not very friendly for people working outside of the US.

Made a painful job a lot less painful

I've used TurboTax for a number of years and will probably continue to use it in the future. I like the way it guides you through each section.
What's great about it: For the most part instructions were easy to follow
What's not so great: One section I had never encountered before required more time than I thought it should have
