2017 Turbo Tax a Hit .... Again

I have used Turbo Tax for many many years. I am also a dedicated Quicken user.
I particularly like the user interface with TurboTax and the "interview" method of filling out my taxes. Each year this gets a bit better (it auto discovered uploading one of my W-2's and asked if I wanted to do it. I gave it a try and it was flawless.) I am always much more confident filling out my taxes knowing that TurboTax is asking me all the right questions and guiding me through. Taxes are very complex - I will avoid the political discussion about this - and simply say that with the interview I always end up feeling like I have gotten a workout - but confident that my taxes are properly filled out and that I am paying my fair share. So much better than paying a tax professional to fill out my taxes for me -- and then I end up feeling less confident because I wonder just how much attention the preparer gave my return while busy with all the other people's returns.
I will continue to use TurboTax in the future, and appreciate all of the work that the software designers put into this awesone user interface.
My only very slight con is the back and forth 10 ... 9 ... 8 ... types of deductions and income. I would prefer something a bit less clunky and would just take me through all of the types - and maybe just put a progress bar or something to let me know I am making progress. Very minor issue so don't sweat this.
What's great about it: User Interface continues to be a winner
What's not so great: None really - A bit awkward on deductions and income lists
Pros: I bought or sold investments

difficulties of military members

every year now when I've been active duty turbotax has required me to file federal taxes jointly with my spouse (who also works) and then do "married but file separately" for state taxes for my wife and I since she is a resident of our current state and I stay as my home of record. this becomes EXTEREMLY frustrating when one has to essentially do the entire filing process 3 times--crossing my fingers all the while hoping everything is processed correctly. ultimately it takes me about 8 hours to figure just what has to go where when determining the differences between when we file together vs when we file separately. turbo tax also does not provide guidance on how to state income from both spouses (ex 1099DIV of a mutual fund that is joint-owned by my wife and myself--do we both claim the income on each of our state tax forms? or does only one of us?). would greatly appreciate it if turbo tax had a specific setup for military members that have to deal with this type of thing every single year. thank you
What's great about it: same as anyone else
What's not so great: married filing seperately

TT Question: "Do you have children or financially support another person?" I have children, but not dependent children -- confusing. I answered "no"
TT asked about previous cap losses and carryover, but you input my last year's return, so you should already know the answer (in this case, there were none).
You warned of need for RMD and penalties for my monthly pension. There is no RMD or penalty.
Using print feature to print specific documents, I did not request "Smart Worksheets", but they were printed out anyway.
Otherwise, no issues. Good luck with handling the new tax law!!!
What's great about it: Thorough
What's not so great: Ambiguous question, cap loss carryover question, inaccurate RMD warning, printed info I did not request

TURBOTAX IS THE BEST, PERIOD

I've used TurboTax for years, and it's simply the best. As you might expect it get easier the more years you use it. It updates itself every time you open the program to make sure you're using the latest IRS information. It's easy to buy the right version depending on your situation, and then it asks you all of the appropriate questions. I'm extremely happy with TurboTax.
What's great about it: It's just so easy to use; complete and accurate.
What's not so great: The hardest part is finding your own receipts and documents.
