great when it works.

When it works, fantastic. However, connecting via wifi or bluetooth can be a nightmare. Furthermore, the JBL instruction manual is ridiculously short with no troubleshooting section. Searching online for solutions is generally of no help. I am returning this device after having had it for 3 days, tearing my hair trying to connect.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great! Unless you want to use it with Chromecast..

We're very happy with this device's sound quality, appearance, build quality, and BT performance. Its Chromecast performance, the prime reason we paid a premium for the JBL Playlist over competing products, is unreliable to the point of uselessness. Still. A year later. Some apps that cast fine to Google Home Mini connect but fail to cast to the JBL Playlist 150. (E.g., Synology DS Audio on Android. It's little better from VLC on Android.) Some network streams that can be cast to the Google Home Mini (e.g., http://77.92.64.44:8022 via VLC for Android) can't be cast to the JBL Playlist 150. Other apps (Google Play Music on Android, e.g.,) that cast fine to the Google Home Mini for hours on end disconnect from the JBL Playlist 150 in one or several minutes. It is no further from the WiFi gateway than the Google Home Mini. Google Home app never has problems connecting to it. Have rebooted/reset/repaired/re-added Chromecast device numerous times over the past year. Have tired casting to it from various apps (TuneIn radio on Android, VLC on Android, DS Audio on Android/iOS, Google Play Music on iOS/Android, Chrome on Windows, Android, iOS, MacOS, ChromeOS) and devices (Nexus 5x phone, Pixel phone, 2x Pixel 2 phones, iPad, PCs/Mac/Chromebook) and none seem much more reliable than others. (I did get Google Play Music on an iPad Pro to cast to it for over an hour yesterday. DS Audio on the same iPad refuses to connect to it at all. But connects to the Google Home Mini just fine.) With all the similar reports I find on the web, it's a wonder they haven't fixed it or discontinued marketing it as a Chromecast device. Its firmware has changed at least once. Still it's a terrible Chromecast experience.

choppy Wi-Fi sound

I'm on my second unit, the first died about a month ago. It was stuck in a software off/on loop and would not allow me to connect or reset. The sou d of the first unit when casting from my phone over WiFi was choppy and buffered a lot. The new unit is exactly the same. My music is on a Plex server inside the house, and the WiFi strength is great. The sound through Bluetooth is fine, but I bought the speaker for it's WiFi connectivity. I can listen to Plex on my phone in my car with no buffering issues, so it seems to me that it is the Chromecast. Sounds good when it works, volume is fine, size is great. WiFi connectivity is it's Achilles heel.
I have a lot of JBL products and think they are all great, and they have very good customer service. But I couldn't recommend this based on my current experience.

Chromecast built-in speakers

JBL Playlist speaks are fine. Chromecast is just too sloppy. I own five JBL speakers that were suppose to play together. They don't, because of Google Chromecast is sloppy.
