We went from an ink-jet printer to this machine and it completely changed our office atmosphere. We became more efficient and our customers no longer had to wait for their documents. Best piece of office equipment we have ever purchased.

Lasted only a year in a 5-person office, then died

This printer was great at first - fast, duplex and with the optional paper drawer, it didn't have to be refilled all the time. Unfortunately, at about the 9 month mark, it started dying. After only 60,000 pages and exactly one year, it prints pages that are fuzzy and unreadable, and any duplex use results in a hopelessly jammed mess. We changed out parts, hoping to get more life out of it, but finally gave up and replaced it.

Good printer so far

I bought the MFC-8910DW a week ago to replace an older MFC-8460N. The print quality is excellent so far and the scan speed is markedly faster (though the delay before it starts seems the same). My only criticism so far is that the plastic parts seem flimsy in comparison to the MFC-8460N. I notice it particularly in opening the front panel to feed in checks and in lifting up the platen. I am the only one using the printer so I’m being very careful and gentle in hopes nothing snaps off and/or breaks.

Very fast and easy set-up Jam was easy to get to.
if there were a complaint it would be to increase the paper capacity to 300 sheets. Memory is excellent and didn't need to be increased as did my 8690DW

Bought this model to replace a long-lived (16 yr) hard-working LaserJet 6L. I read and compared a large number of models and manufacturers. I was told by a friend (and expert) to look for a printer with a monthly maximum duty cycle averaging 40,000 as they are built for hard work and to last. Considering price, none of the competitor's specs compared to those of Brother. Bought the MFC-8910DW and put it to work on day 1 copying all of the User Guides. The printer did it effortlessly, with great looking print and no problems. Have used it heavily daily for about 2.5 months to date. Still no change - tell it what and how to print and the job gets done cleanly.
I cannot know what I shall face in the future regarding the printer's durability or life span. Nonetheless, since Brother seems to have done their homework, and since the printer appears sturdy, well, thought-out and very well-designed, I believe it is safe to give it a 5 star rating.
To date, I have found this machine a superlative purchase and a winner. I recommend it with no reservations.

Great Machine 1 Problem
on March 28, 2013

This is a great product and has all the features we need for our home business. My only issue is at times such as booting and during some jobs it will draw as much as 11amps and blow out the lights. Of course like most folks I have 15 amp circuit. I had to bring in a dedicated circuit of 20 amps just because I purchased this unit. But caution them about the high amperage draw

My 10th Brother
on February 16, 2015

While this is my 10th (or more) brother lazar machine, I have experienced a few querks. After receiving a fax, I have had the machine get "stuck" in receive mode requiring a reset. In general, I found the set up to be fast and easy as long as you install it from the disk, however, because I have both wireless and wired network computers, I needed to manually enter the IP address on the wired systems. Please note, even though the manual says it does not support this usage, as long as you install the wireless systems first, you will be able to load the wired computers using the ip address. The system will not find the port automatically.
Print quality is good, but I am giving it a 4 because of the occasional fax locking and the print quality not being as great as some previous models.
Just a note, I purchase so many because I use these in a high volume office. It is so much cheaper to use these instead of paying a high lease charge and monthly service. I save about $4000 a year.
I use the Brother brand toner, because I have found the "recycled" cartridges to ruin the machines.

This is my second Brother printer. And as is the first, it's a typical Brother printer, very reliable so far. The printer is pretty fast, but, the only drawback so far has been my inability to lighten the copies and faxes.
