Well this isn't a horrible printer. When it works, we do have some that do but we have an issue with one and brother didn't offer to replace it. The drums are super exp as well. All in all if your lucky and get one that works its a great printer but if you get one that doesn't or breaks after 4 months its unreliable.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

great printer

replaced a 5 year old laser brother printer because this is less expensive than buying a drum and toner -- can't say enough about the brother quality and dependability AND easy set-up on a Windows 7

So far we have two issues with the printer:
1. The fuser temperature is high enough that if letterhead from another laser is used the letterhead colors melt and smear.
2. The printer is being used with a USB connection and not on the network. When installed this way the printer does not wake up from sleep/deep sleep without a power cycle or a manual reset of the USB cable.

Fast Laser Printer

This is my second Brother laser printer. The first one died after 8 years of use. Hard to beat that reliability! This one is basically an upgraded version of the first one I bought. It is a great, fast laser printer and I would not buy another brand given my experience to date with the new one as well as my experience with the first one.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Only had the printer for a few days now, but have no complaints whatsoever. Print quality is great, printing speed is great and setup is super easy. Would recommend this printer to anyone looking for a nice, clean looking compact printer for everyday use.

nice high usage printer

I was tired of constantly buying ink cartridges [I have to run tons of copies as teachers are only allowed 400 copies per month at my current school]. So far, I am very glad I invested in a HL5450 DN. It prints quickly, economically [comparitively at least], & I really like the duplex feature. If you need a good high use printer for home/office, this seems to be a good one.

I have owned many other Brother products and this one is on par with the quality that is expected from Brother. Thank you for providing a great product. The printer is fast and prints a great quality.

Good News and Bad News

First HL-5450DN arrived and setup was quick, but I noticed the printer would not wake from "sleep" after a few hours and I had to turn it off and back on to get it to print again. Tech support claimed I should send the brand new printer for repair, but I of course just had Amazon pick it up and send another. They did so with overnight service and the 2nd printer is just fine. A bit noisy, but very fast and no regrets chosing this printer.
I would recommend this to a friend!
