I bought this for my 7-year-old son after purchasing another High Sierra backpack last year for my 9-year-old. This backpack is wonderful quality, but it is HUGE--too huge for my first grader. In particular, it is too tall/long for him to carry comfortably (hits the bottom of his head & comes down just below his bottom). I will hang on to this one to use in a few years, as it is a great backpack with lots of storage space. Just be aware that it is too big for a young kid to use comfortably!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use this pack for work. I carry a number of smaller pouches, a towel, a clipboard, water and snacks. The pack seems to be of high quality; However, it is nearly impossible to EASILY open or close the zippers because of the hard flap which covers the zippers. Very inconvenient as I have to open and close the pack many times during the day. I would not have purchased the product had I known about this problem.

Cons: Hard to Access Items, Heavy To Begin With, Zippers hard to use covered with a stiff flap

My son previously owned a high sierra backpack and carried it everyday to school. It lasted for several years!! He specifically asked for another High Sierra when he needed to replace the initial one. He likes the many compartments and durability. It also came in his favorite color which was an added bonus!
