These bottles have expiration dates. One of the major benefits of using Sodastream machine is avoid wastes (buying sparkling drunks in bottles or can). With expiration dates, that drifts this purpose. In addition, it makes consumers feel that they are not really "safe". In retrospect, had I known about this, I would have purchased the glass or stainless steel bottle. Now I am stuck with 2 bottles that expires on the same date and I am the only person in the family uses Sodastream machine - the extra bottle will be thrown away before using. What a waste, it makes me feel guilty for not being "environmental friendly".

Since plastic degrades over time and the bottle has to withstand recurring pressure from carbonation, it cannot be used forever. The expiration date on the bottle must be checked and new bottles purchased as soon as the former expires. The bottles must also be replaced if put in the dishwasher, exposed to a heat source, or if they have become scratched. All components of carbonating bottles except for the seal inside the cap are recyclable. Check with your local recycling authority for more information.

The process couldn’t be easier. My wife is very particular about the taste and carbonation of her diet tonic water which she drinks by the case. Your diet tonic syrup and carbonation levels are a winner. I love the fact we aren’t throwing away case loads of plastic bottles. So far, it’s a success.
