Induction cooking is a disappointment.

In general, it is a good, well made, range. However, I am disappointed in how GE designed its induction cooktop.
The largest "burner" requires that the flat area on the bottom of any pot or pan be at least 8" in diameter. Anything less, even slightly less, will cause the "burner" to automatically turn itself right back off. In my induction cookware set, the largest pot, a rather big 10" stock pot, has only a 7.5" flat bottom, and thus can't be used. That really makes this large "burner" practically useless to me. Quite a disappointment. GE should have incorporated a way for the large "burner" to automatically adjust itself to slightly smaller pots and pans. Even 7" would be a lot more practical than the current 8" minimum.
I have read that with induction cooking, one can quickly boil a pot of water. Well, I found that it takes just as long for my new induction range to boil a bot of water for pasta, as did my old exposed electric coil GE range. This might be due to the problem I mentioned above, and because of such, I have to use one of the other, smaller, "burners" to always heat water. Add to that, that NONE of the other "burners" offer the Power Boil button. Again, just more disappointment.

Love the induction cooktop

We have had this range for almost a year and I have liked it and had no trouble with it. If you are an old convection oven owner as we have been for the past 25 years, these new ones do not work as well as the old ones but I still like this one. The induction top is marvelous!!. It is really great that if there is not a pot on it and it gets turned on you do not have to worry because it turns itself off. Water really does boil very quickly. You have to learn not to use the high heats very often at all. I cook on much lower temp settings that with my old glass top range.

So far, so good.

We just got this installed the other day so I can only speak of the few times we have used it. The induction part we love-it is so fast and responsive-which is one reason we wanted this range. We just did not like cooking on the electric range and as we could not get gas, we decided on induction. The touch controls are very sensitive; and the first time we used the oven my husband touched the control panel with a oven mitt; which turned the oven off. Thank goodness we noticed it-so be careful as it is very easy to turn the oven off without meaning to. But as I said; so far, so good.

Great so far, with a couple nitpicks

We replaced our 17 year old GE Profile slide-in range with this induction type. So far, only two minor complaints that keep it from being 5-star.
First, the old range fit perfectly since everything was completely square—now the back vent extends past the cooktop, so the cooktop does not completely overlap the cutout (we have a small piece of the quartz countertop behind it. Apparently, these are meant to go all the way back. It could have been designed to accommodate both types of installations, if the cooktop also went all the way to the back, but it stops, leaving a small gap where the vent part is indented.
Second, the cooktop does not completely sit on the countertop. The spacer under the cooktop leaves about a 1/8-inch margin around it where spills could travel under the glass. Our previous GE slide-in allowed for the cooktop to completely rest on the counter all the way around.
All in all, minor things, but easily could have been designed better.
We appreciate the control locks, since the touch controls are easily activated. Luckily, with induction, burners can't be activated unless there is magnetic metal o the burner. The burners heat up extremely fast, so we've had to learn to allow less time for things to come to temperature. Have only used the oven once, and accidentally used convection on cookies that were only on one rack. We found out later that it should have been on regular Bake instead. That may account for why the back left corner was so much hotter and browned more than the rest.

Beautiful but flawed

This is a beautiful looking stove and when it works, it works well. I'm within the 1-year manufacturers warranty and have had the entire cooktop replaced once and now it has stopped functioning again. I'm not very hard on appliances, so I really am at a loss as to why this appliance stops functioning. Once the cooktop stops working the oven no longer works. So, I have no stove again and am awaiting the repair visit at the end of this week. I'm a fan of induction cooking, love the warming drawer, and the stove looks great in our kitchen.

User friendly, excellent features!

We've been using our stove for over six months and are extremely happy with the temperature controls. Using the plus or minus immediately turns the heat up or down. No more boil-overs! Water heats more quickly on my cooktop that it does coming from the tap, greatly reducing the time waiting for liquids to reach the right temperature. The pre-programmed "Melt", "Power-Boil" and "Simmer" are a great starting point to raise and lower the temperature as needed.
The "Warming Zone" on the cooktop and the warming drawer make it so much easier to have multiple dishes ready to serve at the same time. The gliding oven rack is amazing, making it so much easier to put heavy bake ware into the oven...not only easier on the back, but makes it less likely to get burned by the upper rack.
The manual that comes with this stove is very user-friendly as well. The stove has so many features I was unaware of until I took the time to read through the manual and "play" with it!
The only negative is how easily the brushed nickel surrounding the controls gets scratched. You have to be very careful removing pans towards the front of the stove!!

FA92

Loved this oven until now. We've owned it for about 18 months and now we get an error. I researched the error and noticed that there are several customers that have gotten the FA92 error at just over a year (when the warranty runs out).

Fast and easy cooking

We really wanted an induction stove that slid in, and this fit the bill. It cooks great with fast heat up and cook times versus regular electric glass cook tops. It has 5 burners also! Stove turns off instantly when you take the pan away. My only complaint is that it's too easy to turn on the stove controls when wiping the stove down and just leaning on the front control panel. Since the burners won't turn on without a magnetic pan, this is not a big deal, but just a minor annoyance.
