THE GOOD NEWS AND THE BAD NEWS

The Good News and the Bad News
Two days ago, my wife and I had the GE PHS920SF2SS induction electric slide in range installed in our home. It's beautiful! We have not had a range in over a month. The reason for the long wait, we couldn't decide between a competing manufacturer's electric induction slide in range and the GE electric induction slide in range. We picked the GE based on the availability of GE's authorized repair service in our area and GE's reputation for reliability. The competing manufacturer's authorized repair company would have to travel over 100 miles one way from Columbia, SC to Charleston, SC for repairs. GE has local authorized repair technicians in Charleston. However, we didn't think we would need GE's repair service so soon. We boiled several pots of water just to test the power boil burner. It worked great. Then, we decided to bake some biscuits. That's when we realized the "door lock" light for the oven was on and would not shut off whether the oven door was open or closed. The door lock light code prevents the operation of the oven even though the oven door is not really locked. We read the manual back to front for troubling shooting tips and googled for more troubleshooting help. We tried everything. Nothing worked. So now, we have a GE repair technician coming to our home only 3 days after the range was installed. The good news: we don't have to wait 2 weeks for a competitor's authorized repair technician. The bad news: The GE PHS920SF2SS went down only 4 hours after installation. Update: It's been 4 days since my review above. GE repair technicians have twice attempted to repair our new range. The oven continues to malfunction. No biscuits yet!

Sheer joy range

Bought this range after extensive online research. We have found our Induction cooktop to be fast to heat pans and fast to let pans cool; as responsive as our prior gas ranges but so much safer and cleaner.  Because it is induction, only certain of our pans worked.  We knew we would have to replace some. But so delightful to cook with! Water boils so fast. Oven is big. Cooked 22 lb turkey in oven with thermometer- perfectly done. Cooktop very fine control of temperature, especially low temperature heating.  Also, as much as 70% less electricity used for same cooking compared to conventional electrical, by report, so ecological and will become more economical each day. We are delighted with our purchase.

Switched from Gas to Induction - Love it
on November 18, 2013

I was skeptical about switching from gas to an induction cook top.  Did my homework and made the switch. I actually have more control with the induction.  A simmer is a true simmer and a boil is a true boil. Very efficient; easy to clean. Another huge benefit is it does not heat up my kitchen like the the gas cook top did.  The convection oven is precise and bakes like a dream.  P.S. I have two homes with the G.E. Profile series. One is gas, and I like it but I'm so happy I purchased the induction for my main
residence!

Great while it lasted

Awesome. We loved it. Just outside of the warranty we get intermittent oven and burner shut offs. Most of the time about 15 seconds after turning on. Some times accompanied with error code FA92. Resetting breaker fixes it for a day if you're lucky.

Excellent Introduction to Induction Cooking
on December 3, 2013

Installed for 2 weeks in a new kitchen remodel, its been interesting using an induction cooktop after 25 years using gas.  It is super-responsive to changes in the burner settings. Brought 2 gallons of water from 65 degrees to a full boil in 10 minutes on the powerboil burner.  I also used the temp probe to make Thanksgiving turkey and it turned out perfectly.  We also gave the warming drawer a workout and it is a great feature.  Finally, we love the look of this slide-in range, especially with a matching GE Profile convection microwave mounted above it.

I'm in love!

Best Christmas present ever! I’ve had it for four days now and I’ve used both the top and oven every day. I couldn’t be happier. My old stove was electric and I think it was somehow connected to a nuclear power plant. The temperatures on all burners eventually ended up in a hard boil. The temperature control on my GE induction is heaven sent.
The interior of the oven is huge and it’s the first I’ve ever had with three racks. The extension rack is an added bonus to functionality. I love everything about this stove. It’s beautiful to look at and it’s quality throughout. I’m showing my age here, but I told my husband that I feel like Queen for a Day when I use it.

GE has met expections with their new induction.

After waiting several months for the release of this stove, I am happy to say we are not disappointed. We had been reading about induction for sometime and my husband and I decided GE was the right decision to compliment our new kitchen. The three shelves in the oven work great with convection and allow cooking of several items a once. We had already done the tiling and counter and were hoping this oven had the built in fill at the back and it did. No modifications were needed. Fits just right with the adjustable legs. We did not have to put in the stabilizer clamp provided. As others comment, the water boils significantly faster that with my prior electric range and the warming drawer works like a champ. The only negative is the plain solid black top. To keep the top looking sparkly, it does require using the cleaning product after each use or any moisture left from wiping up a spill or spatter with a clean dish cloth or paper towel shows up.

Takes some getting used to but is growing on us ..

We bought the Range during a complete kitchen remodel. We did not have gas available and we wanted a high quality appliance. We knew that most of our 30 year old pots and pans would not work. The one's that were magnetic worked, but not very efficiently, some took longer to heat up than our old coil electric. We also had a problem with the touch pad, the controls for the left rear coil did not work. This said, now that we have several All Clad D5 sauce pans and we have learned the controls, we both really like the range. We find the glass top gets dirty easily, but we also find that it is very easy to clean. I love the fact that the heating levels are accurately repeatable. Boil the Brown Rice on High (about 45 - 60 seconds) lower to 4, 45 minutes perfect rice. I highly recommend this GE appliance and would purchase it again.
