Great looking, produces great results.

Purchased as a Christmas present to my wife and me. Replaced a 12 year-old non-GE, good quality, smooth-top free standing range. We wanted a range with the controls on the front, no reaching over boiling pots. Very pleased that this installed without needing a back filler. Looks very elegant & high-end. FYI -the installation guide states the unit won't sit down low enough for our 35 7/8" high counters, min counter height is listed as 36", but it adjusted down to fit with no problems. Induction top is amazingly powerful and extremely easy to regulate, the setting adjustments are fine enough to make it simple to hold whatever heat level you want. Anything you've ever heard about induction cooktops is true. We purchased an inexpensive single element countertop induction unit (1800 watts) to see what we thought about induction before buying this range. We thought induction worked pretty slick but with the much more powerful wattage on this range's cooktop it takes it to a whole new level. Forget radiant electric or gas once you work with induction for a bit. I had read reviews complaining about noise from induction cooktops but I've only noticed noise from the cookware, not the cooktop - cheap pans seem to make a bit of noise but no more than our old radiant cooktop made cycling on and off so that has been no issue at all.
I appreciate the controls, seem well designed - for example, when you select an oven function, the keypad lights up the keys you need to hit next, temp setting for example - very intuitive. I also like the fact that when you turn on an element or the oven the indicators for that are red vs. green for other non-cooking functions, easy to see at a glance if you have anything turned on. We've also been very pleased with the oven. Previous oven worked fine but didn't have things like a chime to let you know the oven had reached the set temp and was slow to reach a setting. This range heats quickly and does chime to let you know it is at temp. The roller sliding rack was something I was insisting on, tired of struggling to drag a heavy pot or turkey out of the old oven. My wife cooked up a batch of chocolate muffins that we have been making for years on the old range with surprisingly better results. This range bakes better without using convection than our old range did with convection. We're very pleased. The old range is in the garage and is on its way to be donated to our local affordable housing authority - it has always worked as intended but the difference with how much better this GE range is pretty amazing.

Still Adapting

Bought this oven just over a month ago. I'm having a tough time adapting to convection, but time will tell. Positives, a big solid stove, great oven space area. Fits three big pans all at once. The shelves are a dream, easy slide. Biggest negative..I am constantly turning OFF the oven and burners when I use the microwave above. The digital controls are way too touchy and turn off when lightly bumped. I have always had a grey grained glass cooktop. A negative for this model, every thing shows on the solid black top.

First Induction stove - AWESOME!

We've only had this range for a week or so, so I can't speak to reliability or durability, but I can talk about the performance. I've never used an induction cooktop before. I love gas but hate the cleanup and don't really like normal electric glass cooktops - stuff really cooks onto the surface. This stove was a revelation. It's every bit as quick and direct as gas, but I think even more powerful, because the heat is coming through the entire bottom of the pan, not just where the flame hits. I put on a can of soup on the high setting, turned around to do something at the sink, heard a suspicious sound, turned around, and the soup was at a full boil. Maybe two minutes - amazing. And then I turned it down to a simmer and it dropped off of the boil instantly. My wife is still moving pots off of the burner out of habit - I'm trying to convince her she doesn't need to. And if food spills on the burners, it doesn't cook on, so cleanup is incredibly easy.
I'm totally sold on induction. Seems like the best of all possible worlds...

Loved it for 4 yrs - until no one can find problem

When oven is on for over an hour AND I then turn on a "burner" everything shuts off and will not start until completely cooled off. Have replaced 3 parts suggested by 3 different repairmen. It looks good but cannot function using the oven and cooktop at the same time. We wind up with a partially cooked meal.

One of the high points of our kitchen overhaul drama.  Elegant, powerful, competent and technologically cool, this stove is a pleasure to cook with.  I grew up on gas and wished I could have it where I am now, but no longer...I am a convert to induction!

Impressive Range

This was just installed yesterday.  It is very elegant.  I love the sleek look.  The controls are fairly intuitive and are easy to see.  No reaching over a hot pot to use the controls.  The cooktop overlaps the countertop giving the counter a seamless quality.  You cannot believe how fast the pans heat up and how quickly they respond when you lower the heat setting.  I was thrilled that the oven has a built in meat thermometer.  It comes with a probe and the oven will shut off when the meat reaches temp.  Cool!

Great range except for the touch pad.

I noticed the touch pad was not working properly soon after installation. The display for the largest unit on the induction cooktop only showed the bottom half of the numbers. I also had difficulty setting the timer. The "button" was very touchy.
I was disappointed with these problems given the price of the range. This seemed to have slipped by the quality control.
The appliance store where I purchased the range did fix the problem, but it took well over a month, because they initially ordered the wrong part. The new touch pad is working fine so far.
I am enjoying learning to cook with induction and the convection oven is very nice. I use the warming drawer often with large meals.

Two deal-breakers

First also pertains to the Free Standing model of this induction range: Requires OPEN-DOOR BROILING, which not only heats up the kitchen but makes it extremely awkward and unplesant to use the cooktop while broilng.
Open-door broiling is a relic of the past, except for GE ranges; as far as I know, all other manufacturers have entered the 21st century and specify closed-door broiling in their ranges -- and oddly enough, GE itself also does so for its wall ovens, but for some reason hasn't mastered the technology for
its ranges.
Second is that the glass cooktop cannot be installed without a gap over the counter, which means part of it is suspended in air even with the specified 36" high counters. The metal support under the cooktop rests on the counter, but the glass protrudes beyond the support and therefore cannot.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
