Samsung's Galaxy Book Shoots For Best In Class

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The convertible format is nothing new, having seen a resurgence in popularity with the release of Windows 8 back in 2012. Since then, in an attempt to take advantage of the new breed of touch-optimized operating systems, there have been countless pretenders to the throne of ultimate convertible. With the Galaxy Book, Samsung are the latest to toss their considerable hat into the ring.
When you think about it, it’s surprising we haven’t seen a Galaxy Book sooner. Not only do Samsung have significant experience in the tablet market, but they’re no slouches when it comes to laptops, either, with a range of both Chromebooks and Windows machines.
As if there was any further need to drive home how well-equipped they are to dominate the convertible sector, it was Samsung who single-handedly brought the digital stylus back to the mass-market with their long-running Note phones.
The S-Pen that comes with the Galaxy Book is not only full-sized (instead of the Note’s compact stylus), but is adorned with a rubber-coating that feels so comfortable to hold, you’ll be using it for the full 11 hour battery life without issue.
Keyboards have long been the achilles heel of convertibles and, thankfully, Samsung appear to have bucked the trend, with a firm keyboard equipped with premium chiclet keys that are incredibly responsive to use.
The only area of minor complaint is the stand. While every other aspect of the Galaxy Book feels premium, the stand is part of the case, rather than affixed to the tablet, and feels far more flimsy than others I’ve used.
Ultimately, the Galaxy Book is a beautifully-designed device that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in its class. It has its weaknesses, but considerably more strengths, resulting in a convertible that is an unquestionable contender for ‘best in class’.

Better than the competition

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I currently own a laptop, a tablet, another 2-in-1 and the Samsung Galaxy Book and let me tell you, this is by far the best out of the bunch. Right out of the box I was amazed by how thin and light it was. It comes with an i5 processor and performs better than expected when using it as a tablet or a laptop. The 256GB memory is sufficient for day to day activities and with the 8GB ram it packs a powerful punch when multitasking. When I used the Samsung Galaxy Book as a tablet, it lasted around 9 hours but when used as a laptop it lasted only 3 hours which I was pretty upset about. It comes with a backlit keyboard and a pen which puts the competition far behind since you have to purchase accessories for the others. I love the HDR AMOLED screen and use it quite frequently watching movies and shows. This 2-in-1 has been my go to device for the past few weeks and I couldn't be happier! The pen is great, it's very responsive and doesn't require batteries which is always a plus. I found the keyboard to be a bit flimsy and hard to use while on my lap but on a table or a hard surface it performed better than expected. At the end of the day, the question to ask is: Would I pay retail price for the Samsung Galaxy Book? I would not. Overall I love how light the Samsung Galaxy Book is and would be perfect for business trips and traveling.
I've been using the 8gb/256gb model for several months now. It is much better than my former Surface Pro 4 (other than no kickstand). Wacom EMR technology is to die for whether you are an artist or serious note taker. Easily drives two of Samsung SH850 WQHD monitors, but does not support daisychaining - you have to use up both your ports. It really needs a refresh to 8th gen four core i5, with Thunderbolt 3 support for good docking solutions. It also needs a software bump to permit the AMOLED screen to shut off when docked to external monitors to prevent screen burn in. It's probably too late for the 2018 version, but it should include a small S-pen in a silo, for "always with you" convenience like the Notebook 9, with the better full size pen as an extra cost option.
Major issue is Windows 10 is not Android App Compatible. The reason for the purchase was to replace an older smaller screen Samsung tablet. So basically, apps I use for controlling many items can't be used with Windows 10. Without the apps, it's not as useful as a tablet. Keyboard cover leaves a little to be desired (to flimsy).
I would recommend this to a friend!

In theory, it’s a great piece of technology, but I said I wanted a lap top for a reason. The tablet part is constantly slipping out of the very poorly thought out detachable keyboard. Also, the tablet is heavy, that I can never keep it upright if I am not on a stable surface. So it can’t be with me on the couch or on the bed, which is where I am usually on a computer. Lastly, there are only pouches. I was desperate for a hard case because the darn thing falls out or slips out tumbles down etc. I just can’t stand it
Pros: Lightweight
Cons: slips out of detachable keyboard and falls m
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Says 4.7 out of 5 stars(3) with "NO REVIEWS"
I feel like Samsung slacked on this in the specs department they could have done much better with the specs or at least given more customization options.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, needs higher ssd options, needs i7 processor option, need more color options, needs minimum 3 usb-c ports
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
