Life Changing!

A dear friend bought me this kit as a gift. I anticipated being able to learn some good health info and explore nationalities. What I found was my biological father and an entire side of my family I had never known. I was raised by my grandmother and my whole life was told no one knew who he was, Last Friday, at 37 years old, I met him for the very first time. I have sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles.......it's overwhelming coming from very little family into an amazing huge loving one. Thank you so much <3

Thank you for your feedback. The population labels in Ancestry Composition refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities. In general, we sought to make the populations as small as possible, subject to the constraint of being able to distinguish between them. Populations may be inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.
You can read about the population selection process in more detail in the corresponding section of the Ancestry Composition Guide: https://www.23andme.com/ancestry_composition_guide/
Your results are a living analysis. Using thousands of reference individuals we are able to continually evolve and improve your results. As we update our reference data, it will not be uncommon to see slight shifts in your results over time.

My father has been estranged from him fathers family since he was a teenager, and I grew up not knowing anything about them other than their names. A few months back my great aunt offered to do our families DNA, so I went ahead and sent in my sample. Within a few weeks I got my results back, and the first listing of ancestral relatives turned out to be a second cousin from my fathers side of the family, I am now in contact with his remaining aunt and cousins thanks to 23 and me, this was really the best gift I could ever ask for!

I'm currently participating in a study with 23andMe and it's really interesting to see all the stats from other participants. I loved getting back my ancestry report, it was very informative, especially since I'm adopted and have no information to go on. It also helped me find possible relatives.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I'm adopted and are still looking into my ancestry and DNA results, it's all extremely helpful and interesting. I would recommend taking the time for the test. It's truly eye opening. I never knew some things in my DNA history.
