Revealed an unknown relative

23andme revealed an unknown relative. The information and the way that information came out caused conflict within my family. I believe that we all have the right to know if a person out there turns out to be a relative. Some members of my family did not want to know and I believe I need to respect their wishes as well.

Definitely best if you don’t know much about your ancestry, but even with most my ancestry being known i still had some little surprises.

I got the test as a joke to see what my ancestry would look like. Thanks to it I was able to find some cousins and unearth the history of my family. Now it is a conversation piece, even with the older generations in my family

Helped me find my birth father and two siblings!

I have known that my birth father was a question mark for over 40 years but never dug into it because I didn't want to create any awkward or uncomfortable situations for family members. After speaking with someone who used 23andMe and found her birth mother, I gave it a shot. When my results came in, I learned that I had a half sister living in the state I grew up in. We made contact, and I found I also have a half brother and that my birth father is still alive. It's one thing to find out what your ancestry is, but to have a service that is as simple as providing some saliva in a straw and being able to locate a family you didn't know you have, you CANNOT put a price tag on that. I'm not overstating it when I say that this is one of the best decisions I've ever made, and I only wish it was available to me 30 years ago.

Almost Found My Paternal Grandfather

I bought this to try to find out who my paternal grandfather was. I had nothing to go off of at all. I spat into a tube less than I thought it was going to be. Waited about a month and found the family of his and a few relatives. My father is going to take a test to get a better result for himself. He is so shocked and is very happy after 40 years of questioning. Thanks so much.

Fast, easy, useless

I hope to see my ancestry localized more accurately because history of my country is very complex with lots of wars, thus there are not much archives left. The results of the test showed me that my genes cover the population of 180M people and the territory of 17M square km.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
