I am NOT a Neanderthal.....well, maybe

Easy, straight-forward AND very surprising to find out your ancestors came from such diverse areas of the globe.....and I thought I was just German. What a surprise. Also interesting to find out that my wife is more Neanderthal than I and 86% of those tested by 23&Me....at least she does not drag her knuckles ... much. Seriously, that is only part of the benefit of the service. The main reason I signed up was to find out more about my health status, as genetically determined. Do I want to know? Of course....maybe I can do something to change my lifestyle or prognosis if I know about it and still have time to turn the ship....I recommend it if you are interested in improving your quality of life as best you can, and not hiding your head in the sand. Get it done.

I'm adopted and found my biological family

I did DNA tests on 23 and Me and AncestryDNA, but was matched to a first cousin on 23 and Me. I had non identifying information from the State where adopted and built a family tree on the other website. But, without the match from 23 and Me I'd have never found my biological family. I found my mother and half siblings!

I was adopted, and knew only a little about my bioparents. With 23 and me, now the mystery is solved. Can't say enough good things about this company!

The part of my ancestry was accurate since I had this done through another company. The part of Wellness was bad. First I needed to answer a questioner, and the comments that I received on the 23 & Me report were easily put together with the answers I provided. It was like getting a reading from a fortune reader, first you answer the questions so they can have a better chance of getting it right.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for your feedback. The data that we report is strictly genetic information regarding your genotype (e.g. the A’s, T’s, C’s, and G’s at particular locations in your genome), generated through processing of your saliva by 23andMe. Participation in surveys is completely voluntary. Choosing not to participate will not affect your genetic data.

Topics of Wellness reports can be very complex and influenced by many other factors, both genetic and non-genetic. Our Wellness reports do not test for all possible variants linked to a wellness response, nor do they account for lifestyle or other non-genetic factors. Genetics only tells part of the story when it comes to many of our traits, so that's why our prediction about your trait may not always match your actual trait.

Not worth the $100

I bought this about a month ago and the results were returned in the timeframe stated. Very disappointed in the lack of real info; then they try to upsell you for more $$ to get additional data. Not a good value.

I gave this to my mother for Christmas. The final information was so generic, I could have put it together without a DNA kit. And really, does anyone care what kind of ear wax their DNA says they have?

Thank you for your feedback. The 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service is the first and only genetic service available directly to you that includes reports that meet FDA standards. You now are able to receive 65+ reports on health, traits and ancestry instead of exclusively ancestry reports.

In addition, the 23andMe site has been redesigned, offering updated tools and features, better functionality, and new content.

You can preview a full list of available reports here: https://www.23andme.com/dna-health-ancestry/

Brought together a mother and daughter

I was curious about my ancestry so I decided to do a dna test. Seeing the DNA sharing feature, I was also curious, I said why not. Little did I know by sharing my DNA I would be bringing a mother and daughter together. Long story short, the mother and daughter have been looking for each other for decades. I had matched with the daughter on 23 and me as a second cousin, and I did not recognize the name! The daughter was put up for adoption at birth due to unfortunate circumstances. The mother went back to the adoption agency years later in an attempt to reach out and find her daughter but unfortunately the agency had closed down. I was able to relay my findings to the mother who was in tears, as she had been looking for her daughter for years. Because of 23 and me, they are now connected and meeting for the first time very soon!
