Very much concern

I applied to 23andMe to see learn more about my ancestry. The results greatly disappointed me. My paternal grandmother was 1/2 Cherokee and my maternal grandfather was 1/4 Chocktaw. Yet the results from 23andMe does not indicate any native American ancestry.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for your feedback. Your results from 23andMe can only show you what can be seen in your DNA. Sometimes, people with Native American ancestry may not see it reflected in their DNA. It is not uncommon to lose all trace of Native American DNA only a few generations after a full Native American ancestor.
Even if your Native American heritage cannot be seen through your DNA, you should not infer that your understanding of your family heritage as passed down through the generations is incorrect, only that your genetic heritage does not reveal Native American ancestry.

Clues in Chromosones and Genes

In spite of the "inscrutability" of the actual DNA matches, I know enough about surnames to take a stab at figuring out "why" we match. It is difficult. It would help if the chromosomes had names instead of just numbers -- do they? I am recommending the product for later use, when the mapping science is not so cryptic to the non-scientist.

I think I’m just a boring specimen. I am in awe that they think I probably can’t match tones, given that I am a performing singer and also a composer. Wish I could get that genetic finding off the list, but they just assume it applies or that it is not important enough to ask if it is correct. It matters to me.

Thank you for your feedback. Having Native American DNA is different from having Native American ancestry. We understand that the distinction between ancestry and DNA can cause confusion.
Your results from 23andMe can only show you what can be seen in your DNA. Native American DNA is often lost with time and with every generation and may not be revealed in testing such as ours. For example, it only takes a couple of generations from a full-blooded Native American to lose all trace of Native American DNA.
This does not mean that you do not have Native American ancestry or that your family heritage as passed down through the generations is incorrect.

United with Vietnamese Daughter I never know I had

Over 51 years ago I was stationed in Vietnam I never knew that I had a daughter to a Vietnamese woman Until DNA match was made on 23 and me through a family member I have since confirmed this relationship by having my DNA done and confirmed she is my daughter thanks to 23 and me we have been united

Miracles STILL happen!

I purchased 23andMe for my mother on the recommendation from our local county genealogical society. The day the results posted (23 Feb), my Mom found that she had a grandson that she had never met or even known about! Talk about a blessing!!! Mom passed away one week later on 1 March at 92 years old. She had the chance to FaceTime with her grandson (my nephew) before she passed.
