We enjoy using 23andMe and receiving updates as new information unfolds! A distant cuz found us through 23andMe as his mom changed country and surname in early childhood during the 40's/50's. Would consider the health version upgrade to hear if there are any genetic conditions I can avoid by eating well or managing early.
I would recommend this to a friend!

It was pretty good and simple. I don’t like that you have to buy a subscription to More Knowledge of your lineage in history, but it is still all around pretty good and fun experience PS for some reason they told me not to leave a review so I’m doing it anyways
I would recommend this to a friend!

I purchased an ancestry and health kit in Feb 2025. It is still unopened. I wasn't sure of the expiration date and the receptionist Casey explained the info on the package, so it's still usable. She was very patient with my request and efficient with the answers.

Family truly is forever

I seen the kit at a retail store nearby and decided "why not?" I wanted to see if my DNA matched up with the "facts" that my family told me about our ancestry. I sent in my little tube of saliva and 3 weeks later I got the results.
What my family told me about our DNA history matched up to my results. What I was not expecting is how many family members that have done the 23 & me DNA study as well. I found a cousin that was adopted out on my father's side to another family. Her mother was very young and unable to raise her. They instead gave her a chance with another family that can provide and care for her as their own. I thought that was pretty cool and from then on our I was hooked to knowing/finding more. I was able to reconnect and discover all sorts of family members. Some had ancestry trees made up and we were able to exchange and add on to our own; but what I was really interested in finding was a relative on my mother's Father's side ( my grandfather). I was told that my grandfather's mother committed suicide when he was just an infant. They claim postpartum got the best of her. My grandfather never knew his mother's family. One day I came across somebody with the same maiden name as his mother's and reached out. It turned out that the lady I got in contact with was the granddaughter of my grandfathers mother's, brother. Try saying that five times fast! I reached out with questions to validate that she was in relation to my grandfather. Turns out she had the story that was printed in the newspaper on her death. The story was tragic. She claims that her family thinks that it was not a suicide like it stated but yet a murder. After reading the story and putting some logic behind it, it very well seemed that my great-grandmother did not commit suicide but was set up to make it seem like she did. It was unfortunate to research a sad story, however, it did provide closure. I looked for many years for information about her so I could tell my grandfather. Unfortunately he passed away before I learned this. It did provide closure for the rest of the family though. I do like this app for the connection and family that I've come across and the results of my DNA test. I highly recommend it to anybody who's curious you never know what you'll find out!
