It's Helpful to Discover the Past

23andMe has been very helpful to better understand more about my family and origins. While the health and trait information is certainly interesting, it is the discovery of genetic matches, close or distant, that is most fascinating - especially in cases such as my own when I have very limited information about my biological family.
I would urge anyone interesting in learning about their family history to take this test, but to also be aware that your DNA ancestry probably doesn't break down the same way it does on a family tree. To get the best experience out of 23andme, it's important to keep in mind that it's providing an interpretation of your DNA ancestry based on genetic comparisons, not an official pedigree.

Found birth family!!

I was adopted as an infant, and while I had found my biologic mother's family (after she had died) there were few clues to my father's name and story. Exhaustive search led to dead ends until 23andme genetic testing located a "3rd-5th cousin." Indeed, this remote cousin had NO idea about some distant relative fathering a child decades ago, but he did have an extensive family tree that gave me clues to the likely family name. By tracking that name through old census data and household names, I then located surviving half brothers. I am meeting one next week!

Best Genetic Service

By far 23andMe is the best genetic DNA interpreter that is out there in the market. While others concentrate more on ethnicity, for roughly the same price, 23andMe is comprehensive providing physical traits, some health conditions and maternal and paternal haplotypes...all in one single integrated web interface. The best for your buck you can get out there; no comparison to the other poor and incomplete services provided out there in the internet.

Would have liked a more detailed breakdown of my ancestry, but gives me a good rough idea. Probably more worth it for the health stuff, if that's your thing. DNA relatives could do with being a bit more user friendly.

Found my birth mother

I have searched for many years for my birth mother and through 23 and Me, I found family. Even though she is dead, it was good to know about her. I also wanted health information for my family and the research has been very informational and helpful. My birth mother lived to 92 and I am grateful for the good genes she gave me.
